Dragon Ball FighterZ Still Doesn't Have Rollback Netcode A Year After It Was Announced

Dragon Ball FighterZ still doesn't have a release date or window for its rollback netcode implementation, despite being announced nearly a year ago.
One of the main things that will make or break a fighting game's online modes nowadays is whether or not they have rollback netcode, which essentially minimises lag and latency issues as much as possible and keeps matches smooth. While that's basically a requirement for fighting games nowadays, that didn't use to be the case, meaning that there are some incredibly popular fighters from a few years ago that are trying to get with the times with rollback netcode updates.

One such game is Dragon Ball FighterZ. Nearly a year ago today at EVO 2022's main stage Dragon Ball FighterZ event, it was announced live on stage that the team was working on implementing rollback netcode in a future update, with more details to be announced in the future. Sadly, however, we haven't heard all that much about the feature coming to the game in the year since then, and a recent update from Bandai Namco hasn't inspired much hope.
Over on Twitter, the official Bandai Namco Esports Twitter account shared a message from the Dragon Ball FighterZ development team. The first half of the message focuses on the recent balance patch that was added to the game towards the end of May, as well as confirming that another one is coming by the end of the month. After that, the rollback netcode update is briefly mentioned, although it doesn't seem very close to releasing,
The statement reads, "We would to thank everyone for their continued patience in waiting for the public beta test for "Rollback Net code" on Steam. We hope you will wait a little longer until we announce the timing of the public beta test... The Dragon Ball FighterZ team will continue to do our best to make this game even more enjoyable for you."
Considering how long fans have been waiting to see rollback netcode implemented in Dragon Ball FighterZ and how much of a splash the announcement made at last year's EVO, it's a bit of a shame to see that it's seemingly still not close to being properly added to the game. Not only is there no release window for the full update, but there's also no timing for the public beta test on Steam, which means that we're going to be waiting some time until it's properly implemented in the game across all platforms.
Of course, it's no easy feat to add such a big feature to a game that came out five years ago on older hardware, but it's still a shame that we don't have a proper release window to look forward to.
