The latest Gift Set from coincides with the release of the expansion, keeping the tradition that started with last year that sees a Gift Set release alongside a new expansion. This Gift Set is more like the first, as it includes two oversized foil cards and four booster packs, among other items, rather than featuring several exclusive cards like the D100 Gift Set for did.
The original Gift Set for was a way to collect oversized cards unavailable elsewhere while snagging a couple of foils and booster packs in the process. has gone back to this format, which means it doesn't feel quite as collectible as the previous D100 Collector's Edition Gift Set, which exclusively featured six foil cards along with Disney artists' signatures, and then included booster packs from as a nice bonus. This puts the Gift Set in an odd place, since the main draw is the oversized foil cards of Stitch and Tinkerbell. The value of the set really hinges upon just how much someone wants to collect those.
The good news here is that both the «Stitch, Covert Agent» and «Tinkerbell, Very Clever Fairy» cards look great. The Dreamborn versions of these characters have nice designs, and it's pretty cool getting to see them in a larger format thanks to the oversized foils. The playable foils included in the Gift Set are also of these two cards, as are the two Tracker tokens. They're great characters, but I still found myself wishing for a little more variety highlighting other cards and characters.
The four booster packs included with the Gift Set help to justify its listed $29.99 price tag, and also mean surprises are in store, since each pack contains 12 randomized cards from the latest expansion. This meant I was able to get a few cards to work into my current collection, cards that I didn't get with the Illumineer's Trove or the Starter Decks for .
The Gift Set for includes all the following:
The quality of the items included is excellent, but it's a bit disappointing that the Tracker tokens are the same punch-out cardboard as the damage counters rather than being metal or at least plastic. The foils and the oversized foils come sealed in paper packaging, which is great because it adds an extra layer of protection and keeps them from getting scratched inside the box.
The four booster packs included in the Gift Set justify its price and mean a few surprises are in store.
The newest Gift Set for is definitely geared toward collectors, despite offering damage counters and Tracker tokens for competitive play. It does indeed work as a great gift for the fan in someone's life, but the Starter Decks are obviously the better choice for beginners and the Illumineer's Trove is likely the better option for those simply wanting booster packs
