After teasing it last month, Backbone has officially announced today that it has collaborated with Kojima Productions to create a new, limited edition controller inspired by Death Stranding: Director's Cut.
In a press release, Backbone revealed that the new controller will be available to purchase on January 30th at 9am PT / 12pm ET the same day that Death Stranding: Director's Cut releases on Apple devices. To make this even more of a collector's item, Backbone revealed that those who order this controller will also receive an iOS copy of Death Stranding: Director's Cut. As 505 Games confirmed yesterday, this version of Death Stranding is a universal purchase, meaning it will also work on iPads and Macs powered by an M-series chip.
Due to the iPhone 15 Pro series being the only iPhone capable of running Death Stranding: Director's Cut, the Backbone One Death Stranding controller will only be available for phones with a USB-C port, with the blog post confirming no Lightning variant of the device, will be created.
As you can see from the images above, the Death Stranding-themed controller's front features a yellow-ish orange transparent design on the grips, with the rear offering a solid yellowish orange. The inside of the controller features the Backbone and Kojima Productions logos, while the back reveals the Death Stranding logo when a phone is mounted.
This is not the first time Backbone has collaborated with a company. In 2022, the company partnered with PlayStation to make a white Backbone One controller inspired by the PS5's DualSense controller.

Godzilla Minus One is a modern masterpiece of the kaiju film subgenre, and it deserves an appropriately epic poster while we wait for the film to land on digital and disc. Thankfully, Mondo and artist Tony Stella agree. While the posters for the movie’s theatrical and subsequent monochrome release were admittedly great, this limited edition poster available for purchase this week only at Mondo is even better.
