Darkest Dungeon 2 offers a different take on the style of gameplay that its first iteration offered. Darkest Dungeon 2 is introducing a Kingdoms mode that shakes up gameplay. This mode will be focused on protecting a kingdom and fighting invasions. Kingdoms mode will be released as a free update in late 2024, and it will feature a blending of the style of the original Darkest Dungeon and its sequel.
Reviews note that Darkest Dungeon 2 made changes to combat and traversal that changed gameplay flow. Kingdoms will bring back permanence and roster management, which may potentially deliver more of what was missed from the first game. Plenty of players are still putting together the best parties for the original Darkest Dungeon, but these changes to the sequel may be interesting enough to bring fans into the new game. Chris Bourassa, the game's creative director, expressed excitement about sharing more details about the update with fans.
Players will be able to upgrade their heroes using acquired resources, which will be helpful in facing the returning Coven, Beastmen and Crimson Courtiers. Many are excited about the new mode, and there are promising updates for console versions of Darkest Dungeon 2. Whether Kingdoms mode will be included with console versions of the game when it releases is currently unknown, but other popular indie roguelike games such as Enter the Gungeon have included added content in their full console releases.
Gamers are looking forward to the many new changes that are coming to Darkest Dungeon 2, and this could include the art. The game is considered by some to be among the roguelikes with the best graphics, so players may be interested in seeing what visual changes are made by the update. Furthermore, Kingdoms is an entire game mode rather than any specific modifier or setting, so there could be a chance that this update will feature amounts of depth on par with the base game.
