's sequel is a long way off, but the codename that CD Projekt Red is using for it may be hiding some clues as to what the plot of the next game will focus on. The recently released expansion DLC to was the last major content addition to the current game, and a sequel to the RPG is in the early stages of design. Currently referred to as, the upcoming game doesn't have much else revealed yet, beyond that it is a sequel.
is underway, but eager fans should not hold their breath as it will be a long time before it will be available for release, likely at least a couple of years. Right now it is in the conceptual design stages, but the name suggests that there is a definite direction that it is headed. Of course, the name could also be merely a codename that has nothing to do with the future sequel's plot and is just a good term, or even something more specific, like the name of the next main character, for instance.

One simple word can hold a lot of significance when trying to uncover what may be happening in the future of 's Night City. In this case, is the codename that the team at CD Projekt Red is using for its new game and could have a plethora of directions it points. The term «Orion» could reference the constellation, the hunter of Greek mythology, a theoretical NASA spacecraft, or even a tie-in to nuclear power. Additionally, when used as a name, Orion can mean «dawning,» which could point to the dawning of a new age for 's Night City.

The most obvious meaning behind the title is that 's sequel could include space travel. The universe already has space stations, including the posh Crystal Palace with its casinos and luxury apartments for the upper class. Currently, in the real world, NASA has a spacecraft called Orion which is designed to transport humans deep into space and provide safe re-entry. Between this spacecraft and the Orion constellation, it is clear that the name likely has some cosmic meaning.
A similar space-focused reference could be another Project Orion that took place in the 1950s and 60s. A real-life Project Orion was conducted by NASA, the US Air Force, and DARPA to test out the viability of using nuclear explosions to propel a spacecraft. Originally they were to use a nuclear pulse to launch a spaceship from the ground, but then later moved to theoretically triggering atomic explosions once in space for added propulsion. The project was eventually halted for many reasons, but mainly due to concerns of nuclear fallout. This entire idea feels very in nature, however, and is easily something that could have happened in this dystopian future.
