If you’re a fan of Cyberpunk 2077, you know that the game launch was pretty rough. It took the developers quite a long time, too, in order to get the game turned around. However, the state of the game from when it first launched to now is drastically different. But it’s about to get even better later this month with the big 2.0 update. Unfortunately, this update will only land on the latest generation of platforms. Today, we’re finding out when the 2.0 update will be available for players to download.
Thanks to an official post from the Cyberpunk 2077X account, we are discovering that the big 2.0 update coming to Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on September 21, 2023. That is just a few days before the launch of the only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty. I know that fans would be eager to dive into this update just to get a feel of how the new mechanics and systems will work when the Phantom Liberty expansion arrives. However, as mentioned, this is only for those on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 platforms.

This free update is going to bring in several revamps to the gameplay experience. We know that we’ll get redesigns to skill trees, perks, revamps for cyberware and police systems, UI improvements, vehicle combat, and car chases, among other aspects, to provide a fresh new gameplay experience. It’s worth noting that this update does not bring any of the content from the expansion that CD Projekt Red has marketed. Phantom Liberty is its own thing, and that will cost players if they wish to pay for the expansion.
With Phantom Liberty, players would get a new questline set within the base game campaign. That adds new quests, gigs, boss fights, weapons, cyberware, and new characters. Of course, that also means a brand new area to explore within Night City. Players will get to explore Dogtown, a new dangerous area unlocked, but we’ll have to wait and see what this area brings when it launches on September 26, 2023. Again, much like the free update, this expansion is only set to launch on PC, Xbox Series X/S and the PlayStation 5. In the meantime, you can check out a new cinematic trailer for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in the video we have embedded below.
A new Cyberpunk 2077 Cyberware mod has been released for the new 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty expansion, adding cyberware slots and more.
CD Projekt have detailed Cyberpunk 2077 2.01, the game's first patch following update 2.0, which implemented a top-to-bottom reset of the once-ailing but at present, rather triumphant sci-fi RPG. According to the provisional changelog, the latest update encompasses general performance improvements and minor fixes plus a fatal bug which sees V falling through an elevator floor to their death when the performance falls too low. Now that's what I call a plunging frame-rate.
Cyberpunk 2077 is, finally, having its big launch moment. On Tuesday, buoyed by the 2.0 patch and expansion Phantom Liberty, the game hit its highest peak playercount since 2020. We loved Phantom Liberty, saying in our review that it's "CD Projekt firing on all cylinders to tell a great RPG story." It's been a long but impressive comeback for Cyberpunk, and the fact that the game is finally getting universal praise made me wonder if CD Projekt was reconsidering its plan to move on to a new game. After all, The Witcher 3's Hearts of Stone was good, but Blood & Wine was even better…
Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.0 update arrived last week alongside new (and truly excellent) expansion Phantom Liberty, bringing a host of tweaks and improvements in an impressive climax to the originally technically-troubled and artistically-questionable game’s quite staggering redemption arc.
There is nothing more consistently satisfying in an RPG than the feeling of unlocking a new skill. Grand story decisions are few and far between, but the RPG skill tree is always there with you, feeding you little power boosts, hinting at new ways you might be able to attack each encounter — if only you gained just a little more XP, and more cash for a key weapon or cybernetic upgrade.
Cyberpunk 2077's popularity has spiked following the release of Update 2.0, with the game rocketing to eighth place on Steam's most played games list ahead of expansion Phantom Liberty's launch on September 26.
Cyberpunk 2077's 2.0 patch has brought with it sweeping changes to game balance and progression, but the change I've appreciated the most since returning to the streets of Night City is how grenades and health consumables now regenerate.
While we’ve still got a few days until Phantom Liberty drops, we can at least enjoy Cyberpunk 2077‘s immense 2.0 update. Rolling out yesterday, the patch promises something of an overhaul for CD Projekt Red’s dystopian RPG.

Developer CD Projekt Red officially launched ’s long-awaited 2.0 update. A free patch released in preparation for the game’s, update 2.0 is a massive overhaul of Cyberpunk 2077. However, it’s only available for the PC and next-gen consoles and has higher PC system requirements than before.
I figured I was going to have to uninstall my Cyberpunk 2077 mods before checking out Phantom Liberty and update 2.0. Most of the mods I went for on my last playthrough were difficulty and loot adjustments that'd clash with 2.0's big changes, and for the rest, mod authors would likely need to update their files to play nice with the patch. What I wasn't expecting was needing to do a clean reinstall—complete with deleting some leftover files—to clear up a persistent crash on startup.
