Cult anime Dorohedoro is getting a second season

Netflix announced on Thursday that it has signed an exclusive multi-film distribution deal with Studio Ponoc, the Japanese animation house billed as the heir to Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata’s famed Studio Ghibli. That deal means Netflix plans to distribute Ponoc’s upcoming anime movie The Imaginary around the world later this year, after the film’s exclusive Japanese premiere.

A now-deleted social media post has fans guessing that The Legend of Zelda could be finally getting its own theme park attraction after years of speculation. When the first Super Nintendo World location opened at Universal Studios Japan back in 2021, it was primarily focused on the Big N’s flagship Super Mario Bros. franchise, but it would soon start introducing interactive rides and attractions based on its other properties. A few months after the Japanese park went live, Nintendo announced that there would be a Donkey Kong-themed expansion coming in spring 2024, with an American version being added to the upcoming Universal Studios Orlando exhibit in 2025.

Bandai Namco is working on a video game tie-in for the Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon anime, some recently surfaced evidence suggests. First released in 2020, Yashahime is a spin-off of the hit shojo anime Inuyasha.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s second season just wrapped up this past December, earning the series its second Anime of the Year nomination at this year’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards after taking home the award back in 2021. The story of Yuuji Itadori, a physically gifted high schooler turned jujutsu sorcerer (think exorcist) in training, has struck a chord among anime fans and discerning critics alike. In her review for Polygon, Chingy Nea went so far as to champion Jujutsu Kaisen’s first season as “the first shonen about modern humanity.”

2024 had a rough start for Japan, beginning with a 7.6 earthquake at 16:10 on New Year's Day in Ishikawa Prefecture. Kuro Games has opened registration for the second closed beta test for action RPG Wuthering Waves. It will be available for PC, iOS, and Android. Recruitment will end on February 7 at 2:00 a.m. PT / 5:00 a.m. ET. Start and end times for the test will be announced at a later date.

Crunchyroll announced the nominees for the 2024 Anime Awards on Wednesday, with the categories populated by several long-running favorites and a number of new premieres.
