Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 takes up a hefty amount of storage

How much or little developers should factor player skill into who you're permitted to play against in multiplayer games is an evergreen debate of our hobby, but it's not everyday that an expert on the topic chimes in.

In just over a week since the global release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the multiplayer experience has showcased an immersive gameplay environment distinguished by its signature fast and responsive movement mechanics, along with tactical enhancements and a refined TTK, urging PlayStation players to navigate fluid and strategic combat scenarios. 

A hefty new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III patch is here, bringing with it major fixes to stability and map balance while adding in DLSS 3 support for PC players with RTX 40 GPUs. But not all of the updates were able to make the cut, forcing Sledgehammer to push them to the next patch.

The Call of Duty franchise may not have ever been immune to backlash and criticism from critics and audiences alike, though they have always maintained at least respectable scores- until now, that is. The newest entry in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, has been widely panned, to the point that it’s the series’ worst-reviewed mainline entry to date.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is out worldwide, and while the campaign has garnered backlash, it’s facing significant issues in other departments. Quarry, Rundown and Scrapyard were removed from Hardpoint with Sledgehammer Games investigating unfavorable spawns, and the Ping functionality is temporarily disabled in Search and Destroy due to exploits in Public Matches.

Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launched worldwide before the weekend amid the backlash against the campaign. Whether that impacted its sales performance, its physical launch sales in the UK are 25 percent lower than Modern Warfare 2 (2022), as per Gfk.

For all the ways that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 feels like an add-on for last year's game, it deserves some credit for shaking up the standard 1-55 progression system in a major way. Instead of unlocking every gun, throwable, and gadget just by leveling up, a huge chunk of MW3 items are locked behind new Armory Challenges.

The response to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, particularly the campaign since early access began, has been less than stellar. Many have panned it for the lazy mission design, repetitive Open Combat missions, short run-time and throwaway plot. It should come as no surprise that development was rushed.
