Keeping track of all the latest video games coming out is an increasingly complex task, what with multiple PC storefronts, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, mobile, and more to keep track of, but don’t worry, I’m here to help. Every month I'll be running down the games you need to be keeping an eye on, from the big triple-A headliners, to the indies you might otherwise overlook.

Out now on PS5, the Stellar Blade demo offers up the first hour-and-a-bit of the Sony-published action title. As its April release date nears, it feels like anticipation for this flashy action game is at an all-time high — and first impressions have been positive pretty much across the board.

Sony and developer Shift Up have confirmed that a playable demo for Stellar Blade will launch later this week, on Friday the 29th March. Of course, we all knew this was coming — the demo was actually released several weeks early, by mistake, on the PS Store. Sony pulled it offline as quickly as it could, but not before a bunch of people played through it.

If you were raised on a diet of Japan Studio oddities and quirky PlayStation published exclusives, then Stellar Blade is the game you’ve been praying for. Developed by Korean studio Shift Up – the infamous outfit behind the wildly popular smartphone shooter NIKKE: Goddess of Victory – this single player PS5 console exclusive feels like it’s stepped straight out of the PS3 era, and we mean that in the most positive possible way.

There's been a lot of chatter about this Stellar Blade demo recently. First, it was released accidentally, and although Sony took it back down pretty quickly, it wasn't fast enough to stop a few people playing and sharing footage online. So, we knew a demo was coming, and it wasn't much later that we got official confirmation. Now, the time has come: it's available to download and play right now on PS5. The upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive action game Stellar Blade will be missing a photo mode when it launches on April 26. Stellar Blade, developed by Shift Up and published by Sony, has been generating quite a bit of buzz lately. There's been a great deal of discussion about the game's main character, and beyond that, many have come away impressed with the game's over-the-top action. Many PS5 gamers are looking forward to Stellar Blade's release later this month, but luckily, they don't have to wait that long to play it.

Shift Up’s demo for Stellar Blade, its upcoming hack-and-slash action RPG, is now available for PS5 players after accidentally going live earlier this month. Featuring the opening section, it sees players controlling Eve as she battles the Naytiba. The demo is roughly an hour long and outlines the basics of combat while featuring the first boss fight.

Shift Up’s free demo for Stellar Blade goes live on March 29th, but in the meantime, various publications like Game Informer received early access and showcased some fresh gameplay. If you’re one of the few who didn’t try the demo when it accidentally went live early, it showcases the initial portions of the game as Eve battles through various Naytiba.

Korean developer Shift Up first made a name for itself with mobile games like 2016’s Destiny Child, a turn-based RPG, and 2022’s Goddess of Victory: Nikke, an on-rails third-person shooter. Now, Shift Up is throwing its hat into the ring of AAA game development with Stellar Blade, an action game starring a young woman named Eve who is trying to reclaim Earth from an invading alien species. The developer’s first attempt at crafting a premium console experience is already much stronger than I expected.
