Baldur’s Gate 3 Lone Wolf mods let you ditch companions for a truly solo adventure

Starfield might have hit early access last week, and will be getting its full launch just a couple of days from now, but the Baldur's Gate 3 hype still refuses to die down. Partly because it will be getting its full PS5 release on Wednesday, but also because it's a very popular game with a tonne of stuff to do. A lot of that stuff revolves around romancing other characters, and if the limitation of only being able to romance one character at a time without running the risk of upsetting them has been bothering you, I've got some good news.

After only a few days' buildup, Larian has released the second major patch for Baldur's Gate 3. In addition to a host of bug fixes and UI changes, Patch 2 also adds new story content for PC Gamer's top ranked Baldur's Gate 3 companion, Karlach. 

Having your pals along for a co-op run of Baldur's Gate 3 can be a blast. It's hard to tackle an entire 100-hour RPG together the whole time though, and sometimes you're forced to continue the journey alone. At least, sort of alone, since there's currently no way to boot your friend's character concoction from your party once they've joined. Thankfully, that should all be changing soon.

One of the joys of Baldur’s Gate 3 is that if you can think of something, chances are you’ll be able to do it. And even if you haven’t thought of it, Larian Studios (developer of this fantasy RPG game) probably has. Larian’s recent tweet is a case in point, revealing that you can disguise yourself in Baldur’s Gate 3 when speaking to corpses.

Before I get elbow-deep into the gamer grease of this build and boss fight—heads up,the video below contains major spoilers for an Act 3 dungeon. I knew it. While I've written about some busted min-maxing shenanigans before, I knew it'd only be a matter of time before someone pushed Baldur's Gate 3 even further. Gamers and tabletop players are drawn to power builds like moths to a flame. Like this player, who you can watch chew through 666 hit points of devil below (the fight starts at around 4 minutes).

Not everything in Baldur’s Gate is entirely true, and you might learn this while reading Baldur’s Mouth as you’re exploring Baldur’s Gate 3. The city’s newspaper likes to embellish some details, especially if a story is particularly good. During the final act of Baldur’s Gate 3, there’s a character named Estra Stir who you can speak with, and it turns out she’s a journalist for the Baldur’s Mouth.

Baldur's Gate 3 has a whole bunch of options for you to create the perfect adventurer of your dreams. It also fills the world with interesting companions for you to fill out your team with, but there are some folk out there who will naturally prefer playing as the lone wanderer type. Not everyone is interested in romancing Shadowheart or getting into wacky japes with Astarion, but Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't give you the option to be unsociable and expects you to party up to take on its toughest tasks.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is not only my favorite RPG game of all time, but it’s hands-down the greatest gameplay experience that I’ve ever had. Larian Studios recently released the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired game out of early access, and it has since been flying through every chart imaginable. Among the vast variety of features found in Baldur’s Gate 3, character appearance changes are nowhere to be found. Larian Studios has just confirmed that they are indeed working on implementing such a system, though.

If I got to redesign Baldur's Gate 3 to fit my specific preferences, the first thing I'd do is get rid of the party system. My posse of Shadowheart, Astarion, and Karlach is great, but my favorite character to roleplay is the wandering ronin—the problem solver with an air of mystery who can take care of himself (Geralt of Rivia, essentially). But alas, BG3 is built with a full party of four in mind. You could try to fly solo, but difficulty doesn't scale to smaller parties, so fights would inevitably become impossibly punishing. Unless mods can save the day.

Fellow fans of a mid-playthrough character makeover rejoice, forBaldur's Gate 3 should be rectifying its biggest mistake sometime in the future.
