Baldur’s Gate 3 Developer Larian Will ‘Definitely’ Make a Divinity: Original Sin Sequel, but Not Before a Well-Earned Break

Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian has revealed the current roadmap for updates to the game, including a patch that makes over 1,000 fixes and tweaks.

Taking to Twitter some hours ago, Larian Studios' Creative Director Swen Vincke shared a short Baldur's Gate 3 update roadmap.

Europa Universalis 4 remains one of the best strategy games ever made. It is just me or do big RPGs often neglect to include the same handful of features that players always want? First, we always need a way to change our character's appearance after we create them at the start of the game—neither The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, or Baldur's Gate 3 included that at launch. 

As players delve deeper and deeper into the full launch of Baldur's Gate 3, certain companion characters are standing out as especially beloved to fans. There's problematic faves Asterion and Shadowheart, who players are convinced they can "fix." There's (of course) the bear everyone wants to bang. And then there's Karlach, who early access players are discovering has gotten one heck of a glow-up in the full release:

Baldur's Gate 3 is having a runaway success that far surpasses even Larian's own expectations if we have to believe CEO Swen Vincke's statement that he would have been content with 100K concurrent users on Steam whereas the game peaked at over eight times that much last Sunday.

20 years ago, expansions for PC games were as commonplace as CD drives. If a game was a hit, it probably got an expansion—that was certainly the case for Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2, which both saw their stories continue in 20-hour-plus add-on adventures. When I heard Larian's Baldur's Gate 3 imposes a level cap of 12 out of D&D's possible 20, I thought that sounded like prime expansion setup to me. But Larian founder Swen Vincke says the studio isn't working on one, and it sounds unlikely (though not impossible) that it'll happen.
