Throughout 2023 the overseas shipping crisis more or less resolved itself, allowing the busy board game release schedule to resume full-throttle. Consuming all of these titles, however, is like drinking from a fire hose, and 2024 looks to be just as splashy and bombastic as the year that came before. Here are eight promising new board games that have caught our eye.

As 2023 comes to an end, cybercrime has become a critical issue. Insomniac Games, the famed developer of Marvel's Spider-Man and its sequel Spider-Man 2 became the latest victim of a lack recently. Nearly 1.6TB of information including developer builds of the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine, timeline of upcoming games, as well as personal data of employees were put online by hackers. While this hack was shocking, it isn't the only one suffered by a major gaming developer in recent years. Just last year, Rockstar Games was hacked and 90 early development videos of GTA 6 were leaked online. Sometime later, it was concluded that a teen was behind the hack, and now he has been sentenced to life in hospital prison.

There’s plenty of horror in our second selection of upcoming titles. This batch of Most Wanted games coming in 2024 includes impossible moral quandaries in a Frostpunk sequel, straight up narrative horror from the makers of Until Dawn, and the terror of performance anxiety in one of the UK’s best panel game shows…. in VR!

Alex, Jen, and Matt have collected their gongs for the second episode of the IGN UK alternative awards. Sea of Stars took home the award for Best Independent Game at The Game Awards 2023 earlier this month and now, developer Sabotage Studio has revealed the RPG has surpassed 4 million players since launch. Sea of Stars is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC, launching back in August, and is free to subscribers on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, as well as PlayStation Plus' Extra and Premium subscribers.

Free-to-play 3D action game One Punch Man: World will launch for PC, iOS via App Store, and Android via Google Play on January 31, 2024 in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, and on February 1, 2024 in Europe, Middle East, and North Africa, publishers Crunchyroll Games and A Plus Japan announced with developer T3 Studio.
