AMD says Bethesda can add DLSS support to Starfield anytime it wants: 'They have our full support'

The first Starfield patch is here, a small and humble hotfix for the long-awaited space RPG, but Bethesda has also discussed what’s coming down the line in future, with official DLSS support and an ‘eat food’ option when scrounging around the world. I can’t wait!

Starfield is getting support for Nvidia DLSS in a future update. In a blog post, Bethesda claimed that it will address some of the highly-requested features and make quality-of-life improvements through a series of regular updates. These include an in-game FOV slider, which so far, players have been adjusting by editing a .ini text file, alongside brightness and contrast controls, and an HDR calibration menu. But before that, the developer has dropped a small hotfix today, to help iron out any ‘top blocker bugs' that are interfering with the general experience in the beloved space RPG. Dubbed version 1.7.29, the hotfix brings improvements to Starfield's performance on the Xbox Series S/X by reducing crashes. It also fixes some quest-ending bugs.

Bethesda has noted that it will be including Nvidia DLSS support in a future update for Starfield, along with a selection of the «top community requested features» that have been reported since the game launched. The announcement has been included in the short patch notes for today's hotfix update, which includes some stability and frame rate tweaks. 

After launching Starfield without DLSS support, Bethesda Game Studios confirmed in a news post on Steam that the revolutionary technology will be added to the RPG soon. Currently, players have had to use a popular DLSS3 mod that was released the same day Starfield launched. Additionally, the post outlined plans to work closely with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel on driver support. An Nvidia driver released yesterday improved performance on new RTX GPUs.

Yesterday Unity announced big changes to its pricing system that, among other things, will see developers charged on a per-install basis once certain thresholds are met. Developers are up in arms about this and not shy about cutting the crap: Tom Francis, the developer of Heat Signature and a PC Gamer alumnus, described the change as "an astonishing scumbag move."

It's been one week since Starfield officially launched, and Bethesda is already working on updates, including a bunch of quality-of-life features that the community has been begging for.

Starfield has launched in a more polished and technically stable state than any past release by Bethesda Game Studios, but a game as massive and sprawling as this one is obviously still going to have some rough edges. And with Bethesda planning on supporting the sci-fi RPG with new content and updates for the foreseeable future, we can, of course, look forward to plenty of improvements.

Cyberpunk 2077's major overhaul is coming soon in the form of Update 2.0 & the Phantom Liberty expansion but it looks like it's going to be very CPU-intensive when it comes out.

Bethesda has said that Starfield's planets aren't all designed to be like «Disney Land» and that some were specifically made to be barren.
