Alone in the Dark Trailer Shows Off its Different Paths, Unique Setting, and More

There’s something in the gaming waters right now in terms of remaking classic games. While 2024’s Alone in the Dark isn’t the first remake of the seminal 1992 game that inspired the survival horror genre, it’s by far the most high profile. The protagonists Detective Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood bear the likenesses and voices of actors David Harbour and Jodie Comer respectively, adding a distinct Hollywood flavor to this game that feels like it should be an HBO series.

Microsoft has revealed the titles they’ll be adding to Xbox Game Pass on PC and consoles in late March and very-early April, and it’s a pretty packed lineup. The headliner is Diablo IV, one of the first major Acti-Blizz games to jump to Game Pass following Microsoft’s acquisition of the publisher. Other notable additions include The Quarry, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, and the new-release indie game Open Roads.

A timeworn classic receives a thoughtful reboot in THQ Nordic’s upcoming . Developed by Pieces Interactive – a studio arguably best known for co-op action-RPG sequel – the new release reimagines 1992’s formative survival horror forebear, studding its homage with references but delivering a modern presentation. delivers a fun horror experience with a narrative that gets better as it goes, but its puzzles are mostly simplistic and its combat sluggish to a fault.

It’s been more than 30 years since the original Alone in the Dark made its debut, and now we’re coming full circle with the game that helped define the survival horror genre. Clearly having an influence on  Resident Evil with its puzzles, weight management system and overall creepy theme, the remake of Alone in the Dark has definitely borrowed a few things from more recent games in Capcom’s series. Unfortunately, Alone in the Dark can’t decide what it truly wants to be and falls a little flat by the time it wraps everything up.

Pieces Interactive’s Alone in the Dark, a reimagining of the legendary survival horror franchise, is out soon. It sees players controlling Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood as they explore Derceto Manor in 1920s Louisiana. The PC requirements have been revealed before its launch, with all configurations requiring a solid-state drive, Windows 10/11 64-bit and 50 GB installation space.

We knew it was coming, particularly considering the ultimate demise of E3, but today Geoff Keighley announced when this year’s big Summer Game Fest kickoff show will take place. This year’s event will be livestreamed to the world on June 7 and once again emanate from the Los Angeles' YouTube Theater. Does a co-op multiplayer Spider-Man game from Insomniac sound like something you’d want to play? Well, sorry, while it was in the works, it’s no longer in production. For a while we heard rumblings a multiplayer Spidey project was happening, but then as part of Sony’s recent step back from their (over) ambitious live service plans, the project was reportedly canceled.
