Alone in the Dark, the reboot of the long running survival horror series, has seen another delay and will now release in March 2024 instead of next month.
Today, publisher THQ Nordic confirmed the game was delayed to March 20th for a very specific reason: to avoid crunch during the holidays for the development team at Pieces Interactive.
The year is coming to an end, and the Christmas Holidays are upon us. However, until today, it didn't seem that way for Pieces Interactive, the team developing our upcoming survival-horror game, Alone in the Dark. With our initially planned release date in January 2024, the Christmas season would have been filled with stress and anything but a jolly time for them.
Therefore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive have decided to give Alone in the Dark a new release date: March 20th, 2024.
The well-being of the teams is a top priority, and both companies want to avoid any potential crunch over the Christmas holidays. Furthermore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive want to ensure that the game not only meets but exceeds the expectations of the community, especially with the outstanding performances of Hollywood stars David and Jodie as the main protagonists.
With so many developers forced to crunch to release games in often unreasonable release windows, it is nice to hear that some publishers truly care about the well-being of their development teams. While I didn't get hands-on with Alone in the Dark, Pieces Interactive has said the right things to catch my interest. Bringing in pedigree like Mikael Hedberg and Guy Davis should help to push this game far and above the 2008 reboot and the utterly atrocious Alone in the Dark: Illumination. Initial impressions are certainly favourable, the hope being that Pieces can deliver on the promise.
The new update will come in early 2024.
Unfortunately, the highly anticipated next-gen update for Fallout 4 has officially been delayed to an unknown date in 2024, according to Bethesda.
, the world's first 3D survival horror game that inspired an entire genre, is back with a modern adaptation that honors the original game's creepy roots. THQ Nordic is setting out to recapture the haunting and inquisitive gameplay of the 1992 game. The 2024 remake staring David Harbour and Jodie Comer has even gained the admiration and approval of the series creator, Frédérick Raynal, an excellent sign for survival horror fans.
The original Alone in the Dark was revolutionary, for the time. Skeptical as I am about attempts to play on classic stories and high-profile names, I recently spent time with Pieces Interactive and THQ Nordic's upcoming reboot of the series, one that revisits the setting of the 1992 game that practically invented survival horror. To my pleasure, I found that, true to their word, it wasn't an attempt to recreate or reboot the first game. Instead, it's something different. It's a new and fascinating story drawing on the same elements that I love: cosmic horror, detective fiction, psychological horror, and the good old Southern Gothic.

The reboot of survival-horror series Alone in the Dark has seen a second delay, with its release date now landing toward the end of next March. Publishers THQ Nordic ascribed the roughly two-month slip to their efforts in avoiding development crunch.
I’ve collected video game delay notices like Christmas candy, and today I have one more to shove in the stocking. The Alone in the Dark remake has been delayed once more until early next year — but the reason should leave most feeling jolly.
THQ Nordic's Alone in the Dark reboot has been delayed, and is now set to come out on March 20, 2024. The decision to push the game back was made, the publisher said, because if it had gone ahead with the planned release in January, «the Christmas season would have been filled with stress and anything but a jolly time» for developer Pieces Interactive.
Originally scheduled for an October 2023 release, developer Pieces Interactive and publisher THQ Nordic’s Alone in the Dark reboot was delayed into January of next year to avoid a clash with other major games releasing around its original release date. With a little over a month left until its launch though, the survival horror title has been hit with another delay.
Alone in the Dark reboot has been delayed yet again, as publisher THQ Nordic decided in order to help developers over the holiday period.
THQ Nordic announced on Thursday that its planned reimagining has been delayed yet again, with another release date set for a few months later into 2024.
To be fair, video game developers do deserve to enjoy a stress-free holiday season while they're crafting a new survival-horror experience.
