As is shared with the base games themselves, there are version exclusives in ’s DLC. The presence of Pokémon that are exclusively found in either version has been a practice since the very first main core games in the series and is a way of incentivizing trading among players. To fully complete the Kitakami Pokédex in, for instance, it is necessary to trade with Trainers in order to obtain the creatures that only appear in their version of the game. The opposite is also true.
Another reason to trade in ’s DLC is to trigger certain evolutions. Trading Gurdurr and Graveler, for instance, is the main way of obtaining Conkeldurr and Golem in the game, as they only evolve once they arrive in a new player’s hands. Breeding and trading the Sinnoh starters in ’s DLC is also another way of getting all three evolutionary starting families from Gen 4. The version exclusives in are but a single reason for players to trade when playing the first expansion of the DLC pack.

Especially when compared to the base game, ’s DLC does not have too many version exclusives. In fact, each title only has three version exclusives, and one of them is actually an evolution of another. This means that, for this purpose alone, players only have to trade two Pokémon, as they can evolve one of them to obtain the last version exclusive from the other game. The first pair of version exclusives is from Johto, while the third version exclusive is from Gen 8’s Galar region. The table below lists all Pokémon in that are exclusive to and, respectively:
Pokémon Scarlet Version Exclusives — Teal Mask DLC
Gligar
Gliscor
Cramorant
Pokémon Violet Version Exclusives — Teal Mask DLC
Aipom
Ambipom
Morpeko
There are plenty of reasons to trade in ’s DLC, but version exclusives are the smallest. There are only three exclusives per game, and one of them is a direct evolution of another, which makes the necessary amount of trades fall down to two. In comparison to the base game’s vast number of version exclusives, especially when considering Paradox Pokémon, this number is drastically low.
To compensate for that, there are many other Pokémon that only evolve with trades and while holding items when traded. As such, players should be trading a lot in case they want to complete their regional Pokédex. There are many new creatures to catch with ’s DLC, and that is only the beginning, as is due later in 2023.
