Alan Wake 2 will introduce a new protagonist so newcomers can still follow the game's plot even if they've "not played a single Remedy game."

After more than a decade in the development wilderness, Alan Wake 2 is finally (almost) ready for its closeup. So it’s fitting when we visit Helsinki to talk to the team making it that we start in a performance-capture studio. Here, we get to see Ilkka Villi (the face and body of the game’s protagonist) at work, as he makes an appearance on a late-night chat show. Meanwhile, we talk to Matthew Porretta, who supplies Wake’s voice. “This would never be done this way now, right?” Porretta says. “The person who mocaps it would voice it.”

A few notable showcases happen each year for the video game industry. Gamescom Opening Night Live is one of the upcoming showcases you might be interested in streaming. This streaming event will feature host Geoff Keighley again, bringing out a series of updates and announcements for the video game industry. In fact, recently, Geoff took to Twitter and alerted fans of one video game in particular that will have a showcase.

Unveiled at Gen Con 2023, the $14.99 expansion for the HeroQuest game system adds a pair of minis for the new Monk hero, along with cards for their unique powers and skills.

With Alan Wake 2, Remedy Entertainment is developing its first ever full-fledged survival horror game, and in an era where the genre and the studio both are flourishing perhaps more than they ever had, that’s an exciting prospect. Of course, given the massive critical and commercial success that the Resident Evil series has enjoyed, and how much Capcom’s franchise has been responsible for the genre’s revival, comparisons are inevitable for any new survival horror title- and that stands true for Alan Wake 2 as well.

Gamescom will be kicking off under two weeks from now with Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 22, and we’re beginning to learn more about what we can expect from that opening showcase- starting with one of 2023’s most highly anticipated titles.
