Bethesda's latest release, , is an enormous game with over 1000 planets, 100 star systems, and, most importantly, a plethora of options and customizations. Whether it is customizing weapons, shipbuilding, or companions and crew members, allows people to tailor their experience. Perhaps one of the most significant customization options is the ability to pick and choose which companions will join the crew during their exciting adventure.
With over 20 companions to choose from, offers a great deal of choice when it comes to picking who will accompany the crew throughout their intergalactic journey. Notably, there are three types of companions in, Constellation companions, Secondary companions, and Hired companions, all of which have differing levels of backstory, requirements, and, most importantly, realistic application. Companions and crew members are a huge part of the experience of the game, with each imbuing a unique experience and their own interesting insights, likes and dislikes, and opinions.

Dani Garcia is a researcher and engineer with a soft spot for robotics. Located in Neon, Dani is a decent companion but not a great option when compared with others. She is fairly useful, and whilst inoffensive, lacks an interesting backstory or personality. Ultimately, Dani is better than many possible companions but essentially forgettable.
Born in 1897, Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, a feat she accomplished in 1937 — although she is best remembered today for her mysterious disappearance — an end she met during another attempted marvel of aviation. It may be surprising, therefore, that a pioneer of early air travel like Earhart would be a candidate for companionship in the year 2330. Although she may not be the most useful companion in, Earhart is certainly a fun partner, and with skills (appropriately) allocated to piloting; she is not the worst companion choice in the game.

Along with Heller, Lin is the first character met during the story — she is also a pretty underrated recruitable companion. Available to recruit following the completion of the «Back to Vectera» mission, Lin is a tough, no-nonsense companion and competent engineer. She is a great option early in the game but fairly one-dimensional compared to other potential companions.

features some of the best faction questlines Bethesda has ever created, but some are better than others. Each questline has a distinct feel, creating a refreshing sense of variety from the main story as well as each other. They also have a lot of freedom, allowing players to role-play various characters within a somewhat fixed mission structure. However, some of ’s faction quests fall short of what the others deliver, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Yet, it’s clear that some questlines are far more engaging to play.
features numerous weapons, many of which, although beautiful, are very similar in appearance and animation — there is, however, a gameplay mechanic tied to the blade and handle of every weapon in the game — Fable Arts. Similar in principle to Weapon Arts from, Fable Arts, are special moves and abilities that can change the tide of combat. Coming in the form of attack Fable Arts, defense Fable Arts, and utility Fable Arts, this core gameplay mechanic is one of the most interesting aspects of the game — an impressive achievement in an expansive game that although not perfect comes shockingly close.
Though abandons many of the RPG-orientated elements of the franchise's past few installments, it retains a few excellent features. The Assassin's outfit has been an important part of the franchise since its inception in the mid-2000s — both for exclusively cosmetic reasons and for the perks that come with certain outfits. Although the significance of the protagonist's apparel peaked during the series' controversial RPG phase, the decision of what outfit to choose remains an incredibly important decision in the latest installment, — a significant and welcome return to the franchise's action-adventure roots.
A core component of Bethesda's latest RPG, , is the ability to create unique and powerful spacecraft. These custom ships are constructed of various parts that can be purchased, found, or gifted as a reward for completing missions. Though there are countless customization options, some parts are significantly better, rarer, and more expensive than others. Divided into three classes, the ultimate ship parts all come from the top tier of ship-building components, the C class.
features a nearly endless supply of quests. Some are great, some should be avoided, and some are so challenging that even the most hardened veteran of intergalactic exploration will struggle to survive and succeed. These quests are made obnoxiously difficult by a number of factors — powerful bosses, seemingly continuous onslaughts of enemies, or simply challenging requirements. Although some of the hardest quests, missions, and activities in can be skipped, others must be overcome to complete the main story.
A key gameplay mechanic in is the customization of attributes and abilities, but as the player progresses through the game, they will be able to unlock a number of interesting powers for their character which can dramatically alter play style. There is a total of 24 Starborn Powers available in; although some are, for all intents and purposes, useless, there are some Starborn Powers that are game-changing and can completely revolutionize combat, enhance exploration, and expedite the process of resource collecting.
is a visually stunning and atmospheric game, and like many of the most immersive ARPGs, it affords the player a degree of autonomy in the presentation of their playable character. Although there is the choice of eight unique Legion Arms and a seemingly countless number of weapons, perhaps the most significant visual customization option is the ability to select one of 17 costumes. Though they all are exceptionally well-designed, some are far cooler than others.

is an ARPG with some incredibly immersive customization options, primarily among them the ability to customize the appearance of the protagonist, Pinocchio. These choices, although limited when compared with some other RPG games, are bountiful — with costumes, eight Legion Arms, and 11 accessories to choose from. Although the costumes and Legion Arms are limited in size and shape, there is no such restriction on accessories; as a result, the various masks and other pieces of headgear are some of the most unique customization options in. Although they are all well-designed, some are far cooler than others.
's greatly expands on the Perk tree, including a whole new branch of Relic skills. This new section is unlocked almost immediately after starting the DLC. After meeting the Netrunner Songbird in its opening chapters and agreeing to work with her, V is called to speak with her once more. Songbird grants them access to the Relic tree, also providing three starter Relic Points to subsidize their first new skill. Legion Arms are one of the most important and interesting tools available in 's vast and varied arsenal. Although the game features more prosaic weaponry, such as the ubiquitous swords and axes, the option to have one of eight specialized mechanical arms ensures that 's combat remains fresh and unique — an impressive feat in an ever more saturated video game genre. Though not the only enjoyable gameplay mechanic in, Legion Arms certainly stands out and shines in a game that is not perfect but is shockingly close.
