Zapbox introduces mixed reality experiences at CES 2024

A brand new year means brand new tech being showcased at CES 2024. We were on the ground in Las Vegas, scouring the show floors for cool gadgets and impressive innovations. We've highlighted some of our favorite products from the event, giving you a taste of what to look forward to this year.

It's generally accepted that Mark Zuckerberg, in the two years since he renamed Facebook to Meta Platforms Inc., has done a poor job of selling his metaverse vision to the masses. The words “metaverse,” “virtual reality” and “augmented reality” have all become so tainted, in fact, that the newest arrival in the sector refuses to use any of them. Instead it touts “spacial computing” when describing the Apple Vision Pro headset, which is being released early next month.

Not a day after PlayStation UK touted its release in a month, Helldivers 2 may be delayed. This is according to Sony’s CES 2024 press conference, where it listed some of PlayStation’s biggest titles. At roughly 22:53, Arrowhead Game Studios’ third-person shooter has a release date of February 28th instead of February 8th.

A day after Apple announced the sale of its AR/VR headset, the Apple Vision Pro, in the US, Sony has previewed its own headset that competes against Apple's at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024. Unlike other mixed reality headsets, the Sony headset is primarily not meant for consumers but for engineers and developers, much like the Apple Vision Pro. Sony plans to collaborate with developers of a variety of 3D production software, including in the entertainment and industrial design fields.

AMD has unveiled its next GPU, the RX 7600 XT, which aims to provide stellar 1080p and 1440p performance, all for $329. This card will launch later this month on January 24th.

In today's announcements at CES 2024 here in Las Vegas,Nvidia officially unveiled its RTX 40 Super Series line up of GPUs, with the 4070, 4070 Ti, and the 4080 getting the treatment. All three GPUs are set to launch this month.

AMD is going first out of the big PC gaming tech companies in rolling out its plans for 2024, with its CES livestream kicking off today at 7am PT/10am ET, and 3pm UK time. The general information on the event is pretty vague, and as the «Advancing AI PCs» title suggests, it's leaning heavily into the buzz initialism of the show: AI.

Nvidia is going after AMD with its own CES 2024 event, but at least it's not wrapping the entire thing up in a cloak of AI-ness. Instead, it's calling this a «Special Address» in which we are being told it will «focus on consumer technologies and robotics.»

With sales in the corridor of uncertainty in 2023, 2024 is a big year for Apple in terms of introducing AI features to its products to ensure it gets buyers to make a beeline for stores. With the Samsung Galaxy S24 set for a big launch, nothing short of a massive announcement will likely do. While the company is far behind then other competitors in terms of AI integration, however, it is working to ramp up its game. With the iOS 18 update, Apple is planning to bring new generative AI tools and features to the iPhones just like Samsung and Google Pixel are doing. It promises a showcase of revolutionary tech innovations with a primary focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Over 4,000 exhibitors and 1,200 startups from around the globe are expected to participate, with industry giants such as Amazon, Asus, Dell, NVIDIA, Samsung, and Intel, all of them converging to present their latest breakthroughs. This year, the spotlight is on Artificial Intelligence (AI), with major players like Amazon, LG, Asus, Dell, NVIDIA, Samsung, and Intel showcasing their latest innovations, including AI PC, Wi-Fi 7, Truly wireless TV, LG robot, Acer 57-inch ultrawide monitor.

AMD will be hosting its "Advance AI" event at CES 2024 in just a few hours where the company will unveil new desktop & laptop products.
