Although rumors regarding a successor console to the Nintendo Switchhave become more common as the Switch presumably nears the end of its lifespan, the latest potential leaks indicate that a prospective Switch 2 launch could be significantly later than fans might expect or want. Released in 2017, the Switch has been a massive success for Nintendo, and a strong recovery from its less successful predecessor, the Wii U. As the Switch approaches the start of its eighth year as Nintendo's main console, however, expectations are growing for the rumored release of the company's next major gaming device.
Unfortunately, according to a post from Brazilian journalist PH on X (formerly Twitter),Switch owners will probably have to wait until 2025 for the release of the Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo's next console happens to be named.
Translated from PH's native Portuguese, the post states that "" all point towards a 2025 release for the Switch, casting the rest of Nintendo's plans for 2024 into doubt — especially with other rumors pointing towards an early 2024 reveal for the new console in late February or March. PH has also been the source for past Switch 2 rumors regarding the console's features, lending some credibility to the leak.
While the rumors have some credibility, and there are plenty of reasons for the Switch 2 to have a delayed release, including building up enough stock of the console for launch and giving more time for developers to build up a robust library of launch titles, it's still important to take all rumors with a grain of salt. Leaks and rumors can prove to be inaccurate or misleading fairly often, even those from sources that have previously been correct, as plans may shift or some inside sources can be misinformed.
