The new Xbox firmware update has seemingly fixed the Baldur's Gate 3 save bug that was causing players to completely lose their characters. Xbox fans had to wait months to get their hands on the award-winning Baldur's Gate 3, and while many have been able to enjoy the massive adventure with no hiccups, some players have unfortunately lost their save progress due to a strange error that wiped their characters from existence.
Considering how massive Baldur's Gate 3 is, the Xbox save error was absolutely devastating for the unfortunate players that experienced it. There have been consistent efforts to address the issue, with Larian offering a workaround that would give players a better chance of keeping their saves safe. But now Xbox players may be able to rest easy, as a new Xbox firmware update is out that supposedly fixes the problem.
The new Xbox firmware update meant to fix Baldur's Gate 3's save issues is available now, but it doesn't download automatically. Xbox gamers will need to go to My Games & Apps, Apps, Settings, System, Updates, and then click on Update Console. Hopefully, downloading the update means Xbox gamers no longer have to stress about their Baldur's Gate 3 saves disappearing, but it may still be best to exercise caution in case the update doesn't actually address the problem as expected.
Time will tell if the Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox problems are fixed with this new console firmware update, but in the meantime, BG3 players can still take some steps to try to avoid the issue just in case. For one, they can create a Larian account to back up their Xbox progress in the cloud. Secondly, they can make sure that whenever they quit the game, they exit to the main menu and then close it entirely, as opposed to using Xbox's Quick Resume feature.
Here's hoping that these extra steps are unnecessary moving forward and that the Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox save bug has finally been resolved. Moving forward, Baldur's Gate 3 players across all platforms can expect Larian to continue supporting the game with updates. New Baldur's Gate 3 updates have been released on a regular basis since the game's launch, with more expected to come in the months ahead.
Larian will also be turning its attention to its next game, whatever that may be. It's recently been teased that a possible Act 1 for Larian's next game has been planned out, so it will be exciting to see what's next from the studio.
Baldur's Gate 3 is a Dungeons and Dragons inspired RPG developed and published by Larian Studios. Featuring both a single player and cooperative element, players create their character by selecting a starting class, take on quests, level up, and engage in turn-based combat using the D&D 5th edition rule set.
