As we head deeper into 2024, the traditional “E3” season (of course, E3 is dead now, but you catch my drift) for gaming announcements and showcases is coming up fast. In recent days we’ve begun to hear some murmurings about Microsoft’s big 2024 showcase, with Gears 6 reportedly being there, and now a few more potential details may have filtered out.
According to The Verge’s Tom Warren, a longtime Microsoft insider, the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase will take place on Sunday, June 9. That lines up with past showcases, which typically take place on a Sunday shortly after Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest kickoff show. Warren reiterates that we’ll likely get our first peek at Gears 6 during the show, as well as new trailers and release dates for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Avowed, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Interestingly, Warren also claims the next Call of Duty will be officially unveiled at Xbox’s show. Typically, Activision has done their own Call of Duty reveals later in the summer, but now that Microsoft owns the keys to the CoD franchise it makes sense to debut the next game at an Xbox branded event.
As for what else might be shown, that’s up in the air. Windows Central's Jez Corden seems to be hinting State of Decay 3 will be shown, but perhaps we also get updates on long-gestating projects like Fable and Perfect Dark, or maybe finally get a look at projects like the Avalanche-Studios-developed Contraband or that Wu-Tang Clan RPG. As a reminder, last year the Xbox show provided a look at Starfield, Forza Motorsport, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, Avowed, and Fable, and South of Midnight, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and Clockwork Revolution were announced. Microsoft typically likes to swing for the fences with these E3-season shows – more than their competitors. That said, they may have some big competition this year, with both Sony and Nintendo reportedly prepping new hardware.
What do you think Microsoft will show or announce at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase? What do you hope they might show?

Despite being a very good game, Granblue Fantasy: Relink got a bit lost in what was a chaotic release schedule earlier this year — but developer Cygames will be hoping that the action RPG's first big update will get people's attention. Launching on the 26th April (that's tomorrow at the time of writing), patch 1.2.0 adds a bunch of new stuff to the game.
This GeForce NOW Thursday brings several major additions to NVIDIA's cloud gaming platform. Arguably the most important one is Manor Lords, currently the top wishlisted game on Steam by over three million users. To quell the hype, the solo developer behind Slavic Magic recently wrote a blog post to explain what the game is not:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Warzone recently dropped their Season 3 update, which introduced a half-dozen MP maps, brought back Rebirth Island, let you play as Cheech and Chong (yes, really) and more. Of course, as usual, Activision is rolling out even more content, with Season 3 Reloaded coming in early May. This refresh will include a couple more MP maps, modes, another Zombies story missions, NBA star Devin Booker as a operator, and more. You can get more details, below.

Dwarf Fortress is many things. Most fans of PC gaming know it as a byzantine simulation of a colony of dwarves. Look closer, however, and you’ll also find that it’s a byzantine simulation of geologic forces, weather systems, and tidal movements; language, psychology, and poetry; medieval combat, of course, and even siegecraft. But the reason that I love the game so much is that it also simulates its own history, with tales of epic heroes and powerful artifacts strewn all across its procedurally generated digital worlds. Starting Wednesday, those histories will be more accessible than ever before.
