Xbox has confirmed that it's bringing four previously exclusive games to other consoles in the near future, although we still don't officially know what those games are.
We may only be two months into 2024, but it's already proven to be a very interesting year. Back in January, rumours began flying that Hi-Fi Rush, one of Xbox's all-time best exclusives, was going to be coming to other consoles, something that was then followed up with even more rumours suggesting that games ranging from Sea of Thieves to Starfield and Halo might eventually hit PlayStation and Switch.
After weeks of meltdowns and uncertainty, Xbox has finally decided to settle the score via a "Business Update Event" podcast. The podcast, which just went live a few minutes ago, features Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, Tina Amini, and Matt Booty discussing the recent rumours about Xbox exclusivity, with Spencer confirming that there was some truth to them, even if the rumours went a lot further than the actual plans.
Spencer says that the team is starting off with four games that it's going to bring to other consoles, noting that it's "not a change to our fundamental exclusive strategy". When asked what those games are, Spencer says that he's not going to name them right now, but that plans to reveal them are "not too far away" and that they will make sense when they're revealed.
"So we made the decision that we're going to take four games to the other consoles-- just four games, not a change to our kind of fundamental exclusive strategy."
Although Spencer didn't confirm any of the tiles that are going to be coming to other consoles in the near future, The Verge reports that the first two are going to be Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment, which makes sense considering the rumours first started with Hi-Fi coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. This was also backed up by a datamine that revealed in-game t-shirts referencing those consoles.
According to The Verge, those two games will be followed by Sea of Thieves and Grounded, which also sounds accurate considering Spencer makes numerous references to how the decision was made so that these games could reach more players. Sea of Thieves and Grounded are both online titles that will surely see a big increase in players if brought to other consoles, which makes them perfect candidates to be the four games that are referenced in the business update.
