World of Warcraft recently made the new Earthen Allied Race playable in The War Within Alpha, revealing their racial traits, Paladin mount, and Shaman totems. The new abilities are not only powerful but both flavorful and ground-breaking in how World of Warcraft designed them.
The Earthen are a new Allied Race coming in World of Warcraft: The War Within. The large, stony dwarves will be available for both the Alliance and the Horde, and have a plethora of unique character customizations, including beards, gemstones, and vibrant skin tones.
As of the most recent build of The War Within Alpha, however, the Earthen are now playable, giving players a full glimpse of their character customizations, racial abilities, and race-specific class models. In addition to some amazing passive bonuses towards their armor and gathering stats, Earthen get more experience from exploration. As beings of stone, they also are unable to consume food, but instead always get the benefits of the Well Fed buff, which they can customize by eating gems. That said, their most interesting racial ability is Azerite Surge – the first instance of an Empowered ability in World of Warcraft outside of Evokers or Plunderstorm.
Though players can now see up to four of their characters on a single screen via World of Warcraft’s Warbands system, the Earthen still have a unique character select background set in Khaz’Algar. The race can choose Paladin and Shaman as their class, meaning they get unique totems and a charger mount as well. The ramolith charger mount is not implemented in the alpha yet, but Wowhead datamined it and the Earthen Heritage Armor for fans interested in getting a sneak peek.
While World of Warcraft players were not initially excited about the Earthen Allied Race, their interesting and powerful racial abilities and unique lore have been slowly winning fans over. Like other Allied Races, the Earthen will not be available right away, but the unlock process seems to only include completing the main story and a select number of Earthen-specific side quests.
Were the Earthen not exciting enough, some fans suspect World of Warcraft might be making a second Allied Race in The War Within. The Harronir, believed to be found in the Azj-Kahet zone, look like a mix between Night Elves and Trolls, but with porcupine-like quills. While there is no confirmation they will be added, Harronir already have a lot of customization options available to them, and share most of the necessary player model animations and rigging, leading many to hope these mysterious creatures become playable as well.
