World of Warcraft recently confirmed that Dracthyr will be able to choose other classes in The War Within. While it likely won’t be right at launch, World of Warcraft fans can expect the race from Dragonflight to open up somewhere near the start of the expansion.
Dracthyr is currently the newest World of Warcraft race, added in Dragonflight. These shape-shifting creatures can currently only play Evoker – a dragon-themed class that can DPS and heal using the powers of the five dragonflights. With two different forms to customize, Dracthyr has the widest variety of character creation options of any race in World of Warcraft.
However, Dracthyr fans will soon be able to play their favorite race in a brand-new way. During a group interview at a recent content creator event to kick off the World of Warcraft: The War Within alpha, game director Ion Hazzikostas confirmed plans to expand the classes available to Dracthyr sometime in The War Within. He wasn’t able to give a timeframe, but according to the report by MrGM, who attended the summit, this change would likely take place in the early parts of the expansion. What’s more, Dracthyr will be able to freely fight in their draconic or visage forms while playing these other classes.
It remains to be seen what classes Dracthyr will have available to them, but recent trends can give players a pretty good guess. Right now, all classes except for Demon Hunter, Druid, Paladin, and Shaman are available to every race. Druid, Paladin, and Shaman would all require new assets, so access to these classes could go either way. They almost certainly won’t be able to be Demon Hunters, and Death Knights may require some explanation, but most other classes will definitely be available – especially considering the World of Warcraft race already has voice lines for many of them.
The War Within itself is also adding at least one new allied race to World of Warcraft in the form of the Earthen. These stone dwarves from Khaz’Algar will have access to every class except Demon Hunter, Druid, and Evoker, giving them a wide variety of options. As an Allied Race, players will likely have to unlock the ability to create Earthen characters after beating The War Within’s main campaign, so interested fans will have to wait and see what that unlock process looks like as the expansion releases.
