World of Warcraft is adding a new craftable ring in The War Within that lets characters bond with one another using a charming new mechanic. This new World of Warcraft item is a powerful piece of gear that might also find a heartwarming place among role-players as well.
In Dragonflight, World of Warcraft overhauled the profession system from the ground up. Players can expect professions to evolve even more in The War Within, and will find tons of unique new item recipes to learn and create.
One such item coming to the Jewelcrafting profession uses a charming new matrimonial mechanic. The Binding of Binding is a new ring players can create that, during battle, can empower a nearby ally. However, the ring also has the ability to form a bond with a particular ally, who always receives the ring’s buff if possible. Hilariously, the ring can even be used to sever the bond. WoW fan and role-player Portergauge, who shared the item Wowhead had discovered on Twitter, pointed out the ring could be used to simulate marriage and divorce all in one.
World of Warcraft fans got a kick out of this new item. Beyond the powerful ability, reminiscent of the Augmentation support DPS specialization in World of Warcraft, players were charmed by the idea of “marrying” their in-game friends and partners. Some even joked about threatening their fellow raid members with divorce if their DPS numbers weren’t high enough.
It is important to note that the Binding of Binding was discovered through datamining in the World of Warcraft: The War Within alpha. This means the ring could change before it is launched, or it may not be released at all.
That said, the item sparked discussion about how great an actual marriage system would be in World of Warcraft. Other MMOs have these options, such as the Ceremony of Eternal Bonding in Final Fantasy 14. Characters in the critically-acclaimed MMORPG can bond with one another through a customizable ceremony, invite others to attend, and even get special rings that can be used to teleport to one another. While World of Warcraft role-players would love to have such a system in Azeroth, the Binding of Binding will have to suffice for the time being.
World of Warcraft: Dragonflight was developed by Blizzard Entertainment and is the ninth expansion pack for the iconic massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft.
Dragonflight features an overhauled user interface, raises the level cap to 70, and introduces a new race and class.
