Ori and the Blind Forest developer Moon Studios has announced its dark action-RPG No Rest for the Wicked will launch into Steam early access on 18th April.

You wake up as the survivor of a shipwreck, with nothing more than the ragged clothes on your back to your name. A short trek away lies the dying captain of the vessel, who mentions the place he was trying to reach– a place called Sacrament. And so, your long and difficult journey begins.

Following its announcement of No Rest for the Wicked launching on April 18th for PC via Steam Early Access, Moon Studios released a roadmap for the upcoming action RPG. Its first update, arriving at an unspecified date, will add multiplayer.

I’ve played both Ori games. I survived the Water Tower in Blind Forest. So I knew that, even though developer Moon Studios was changing genres for its next game, No Rest for the Wicked, I shouldn’t expect to breeze through it. And sure enough, after playing the first 90 minutes of an early build, culminating in a punishing boss fight, I had to earn every new piece of gear, every bit of loot, and every inch of progress. No Rest for the Wicked is beautiful, it is challenging, and it is rewarding. You are not a walking death machine here, like in Diablo. Instead, your enemies are the walking death machines, and you’ll need to learn how to survive them. It’s more like Dark Souls in an isometric-view action-RPG form.

No Rest for the Wicked has a lot going for it. The upcoming action game already has me charmed me with its distinct sense of style. There’s just one thing that’s yet to win me over, and that’s its sometimes cruel gameplay.

It's also fluid, challenging, and deeply atmospheric, all highlights that seems hellbent on upholding. This time, though, these concepts play out in an action RPG space, and the uniqueness of resulting concoction is immediately intriguing.

Having established itself within the Metroidvania genre with the Ori franchise, Moon Studios surprised a lot of fans by announcing No Rest for the Wicked at The Game Awards 2023. The newest game trades in the bright colors of Ori's world for something more dark and violent.

No Rest For The Wicked, a new ARPG from Moon Studios and Private Division, has announced the “Wicked Inside” to showcase gameplay and more tomorrow on Twitch. Announced via trailer during The Game Awards this past November, this is the latest contender in the ARPG genre, which has seen heavy hitters such as Diablo 4 and Last Epoch released in this past year. 

Moon Studios’ dark fantasy action RPG No Rest for the Wicked will have a showcase on March 1st at 9 AM PT. It will provide more details and possible gameplay footage, but hands-on impressions will also be available after the show.
