The UK's final weekly chart of 2023 for physical games is here, and it's Hogwarts Legacy that takes the top spot as the year comes to a close. However, WB Games' open world Harry Potter title has achieved more than that — as reported by GamesIndustry, it's the UK's best-selling boxed game of 2023 overall. Usually, that title goes to EA Sports and its annual football game, but Hogwarts Legacy won out over EA Sports FC 24, ending a 10-year streak.
In the final chart of 2023, the footie sim actually comes in at number six, its lowest result in many weeks. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is up one place into third, while Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is holding steady in fifth. Moving from 10th to seventh is GTA5, and moving down one spot is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, from eighth to ninth. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate makes a big jump back into eighth place from 19th.
Here's the latest top 10 in full (physical sales only).
Having grown up alongside PlayStation, Stephen has developed an eclectic taste in video games and a wide knowledge of the medium, from small indie gems to the biggest AAA blockbusters. Ever hopeful that the Burnout series makes a miraculous return.
Is HL worth picking up at 50% off?
@CharlieChooChoo Absolutely!
If you like open-world third person games, it's really good: the story is interesting, the characters are endearing, the world is well made with quite a few surprises, the castle is fantastic and the gameplay is fun without being overbearing.
And I say this without being any kind of Harry Potter fan (I've watched most of the movies once, and that's it). If you're a fan, it's a no brainer.
Glad to see the game being successful. Vocal minority once again turned out to be a minority, colour me surprised. Didn't buy it myself but I'm pleased for everyone who was hyped for it and had their expectations met.
Well deserved indeed.
Boycott is going well, I see.
@CharlieChooChoo If you like the Harry Potter, world yes. Story isn't amazing, but the castle environment is ridiculously detailed and addictive to explore. Also the combat has a surprising amount of depth to it.
@CharlieChooChoo Definitely worth getting. I had a great time with it! If you're a Harry Potter fan, you'll love it!
(I personally really enjoyed the story, too!)
@Icey664 sounds good, thank you for your honest opinion.
@get2sammyb I've only seen the movies, however I did rather enjoy them.
@Olmaz I've only seen the movies and I did enjoy them, thank your for your honest opinion.
@CharlieChooChoo It's about a 7 out of 10, maybe an 8 if you're a Harry Potter fan. It's enjoyable but over-stuffed and a very Ubisoft-led approach to an open world title.
Congrats to Avalanche. This game was a massive departure from their previous work
