Ubisoft has casually confirmed via a press release that The Division 3 is in development at Massive Entertainment, with Julian Gerighty acting as executive producer for the series.
The Division fans have patiently been waiting for any information about The Division: Heartlands, an upcoming free-to-play PvEvP spin-off, for quite some time and, while the wait for more information there continues, we do at least know that a third mainline title will soon be entering development at Massive Entertainment, although it might still be some time until it's released with the studio currently working on several different titles at once.

The announcement was made rather casually through a press release and a news post on Ubisoft's site. The post, which mainly focused on Gerighty's promotion to executive producer on the series, mentions at several points that The Division 3 will soon be entering development, although it seems that it's waiting until Star Wars Outlaws has released until it becomes the studio's next main focus.
The news post reads, "After joining the team at Massive Entertainment – A Ubisoft Studio and shipping the original in 2016, he moved to Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 as Creative Director, where he and his team crafted a new adventure in the summertime streets of Washington, D.C. Now, he’s setting his sights on Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, as well as the plethora of other projects set in The Division universe, including the mobile game Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, and the survival-action shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland."
Elsewhere in the news post, it's confirmed that The Division 3 will be led by Massive Entertainment, which doesn't come as too much of a surprise considering that they developed the first two games in the series. However, considering how busy the team has been on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws and the fact that Heartlands is being made by Red Storm Entertainment, it's nice to see it confirmed.
Speaking of Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft confirmed in the news post that Gerighty, who is acting as creative director on the game, will remain on the project to ensure it "meets the intended creative vision and provide a great experience for players". Star Wars Outlaws is currently slated for release at some point in 2024, so it looks like it's still going to be quite some time until The Division 3 is actually released, but fans who have been waiting for news on the series should at least rest easy knowing that it's going to be happening and the Gerighty is going to be behind it.
