Voice actor Troy Baker has confirmed that he won't be playing the role of male protagonist Jason in Rockstar's upcoming title, Grand Theft Auto 6. Many fans had speculated from the initial trailer that Baker would be playing one of the leads in Grand Theft Auto 6, although he seems to have put this rumor to bed.
The first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 sent shockwaves through the gaming community. After a wait for a sequel spanning over a decade, Rockstar finally unveiled its next title, showcasing next-gen graphics, a return to Vice City, and a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired story. As a result, the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer broke several records and passed numerous huge milestones along the way, showing why it's easily one of the most hyped games of all time. Throughout the trailer, one voice stood out to players. Jason, the male protagonist, said just one line in the trailer, but many gamers were convinced he was voiced by Troy Baker.
In an interview with The Movie Dweeb, Troy Baker confirmed that, despite the rumors, he isn't the voice of Jason in Grand Theft Auto 6. Of the rumors, Baker said, «I want that guy, whoever it is, to get credit for his work because I’m sure it’s going to be great… Those guys pour themselves into those characters, and they deserve all of the credit for their work — not me.» It's great to see Baker have this kind of respect for his fellow actors. In the past, plenty of actors have spoken of the kind of commitment it takes to act in a Rockstar game, and it seems Baker is all too aware that those who do so deserve the props.
As of right now, neither Jason nor Lucia's voice actor has officially been revealed. Naturally, with a game on the scale of Grand Theft Auto 6, there are plenty of rumors about both, but it will be up to Rockstar as to when the duo can reveal their identities. The prospect of a dual protagonist dynamic in Grand Theft Auto 6 is extremely exciting, having never been done before in the series, and it will be interesting to see how Rockstar handles it this time around.
I want that guy, whoever it is, to get credit for his work because I’m sure it’s going to be great.
As of the most recent trailer, the game is slated for a vague 2025 release date, although it isn't clear whether it will be earlier or later in the year. Recent rumors have suggested that Grand Theft Auto 6 could be facing a major delay, although Rockstar has yet to confirm this. Hopefully, this isn't the case, with the wait for a sequel now extending beyond a decade.
