Tomb Raider devs offer a peek at their new ‘unified’ Lara Croft

Developer Aspyr has explained why Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered's Epic Games Store version was different from its Steam version after fans noticed some key differences between the two. Aspyr has since updated Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered's Epic Games Store version to match the other.

The creators of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered have apologised to players for releasing an unfinished version of the game on the Epic Games Store, following a series of unflattering comparisons between versions on ye olde social media.

If you are playing through Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered on the Epic Games Store, you may find it is a little different to other versions.

One of Lara Croft's darkest adventures is being teased in . Aspyr's recent remasters covered the first three games in the franchise, alongside their expansions, with the option to switch between new and classic graphics, and the original tank controls or a new «modern» control scheme. However, while the franchise has seen several reboots in recent years, there are still three games in this iteration of that have yet to be covered.

There are few western gaming icons who can boast the same prestige and cultural impact as Lara Croft. The famed archaeologist turned gun-toting adventurer has a storied mythos spanning multiple reboots and film adaptations, becoming one of the most recognisable faces in video games.

Earlier this month, a new image of a "unified" Lara Croft was released on the official Tomb Raider website, merging classic and reboot Lara Croft into one new design. Given how little we've seen from Crystal Dynamics or Amazon regarding the new Tomb Raider game we know is in development, this image was seen by many as the design for Lara Croft that the developers were intending to go with for her next game.

The new Lara Croft image that was released last week doesn't reflect how she'll look in future Tomb Raider games, its developers have revealed. 

A newly discovered Easter egg in Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered suggests that the next in line to be remastered could be Tomb Raider 4. Also known as Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, the title was released back in 1999.

Crystal Dynamics is moving on from Lara Croft’s sappy origin story and prepping an all-new entry in the Tomb Raider series which will see the iconic heroine return to her more acrobatic origins. And this appears to be our very first look at the character, courtesy of a wallpaper secretly stashed on an all-new Tomb Raider website.

Tomb Raider fans rejoice. It seems like we are not quite done with the classic installments for the franchise just yet. Recently, this month saw the launch of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered—a collection of the first trilogy release of theTomb Raider franchise. Aspyr was able to bring these games out with a new coat of paint, some modern tweaks to the controls, and other quality-of-life improvements. 

UPDATE 4.45pm UK: Consider me educated. I have looked into this further, and it turns out not only is Trinity the name of the military order in the rebooted Tomb Raider games, but it is also the code name for the first detonation of a nuclear weapon, which was conducted by the United States Army back in 1945. And that could be what the Tomb Raider website is referring to. Whoops!

Tomb Raider The Last Revelation, the fourth entry in the series, may be getting the remaster treatment in the future, judging from some recent findings.
