Todd Howard Talks About Starfield: Shattered Space Expansion, Creator's Kit, and a 'Big Update' Coming Soon

It's a pretty exciting time to be a Starfield fan at the moment, with Todd Howard revealing that the game's Shattered Space DLC will release this Fall, and that land vehicles are finally being added at some point in the near future. However, Bethesda may have also accidentally shown us something it didn't mean to in that same video, as there's a brief moment in which story details for Shattered Space may have been revealed.

Bethesda Game Studios executive producer Todd Howard addressed the criticisms of players left disappointed by Starfield. Since its release in 2023, the open-world sci-fi RPG has had trouble reaching the same level of universal acclaim as previous Bethesda titles, with longtime fans of the developer still divided on their opinions regarding their experience. While some enjoyed their playthrough of the title, other players found issues with several elements of Starfield's design and have not been shy of criticizing its developer for its perceived shortcomings.

Bethesda has inadvertently teased that Starfield's Shattered Space DLC may have a lot to do with one of the game's main factions, House Va'ruun. Starfield has just recently revealed a major new update that will finally bring maps to each major city, add new icons for the different shops and eateries, provide new ways for players to customize their ships, and much more.

Starfield will have a big year as the space RPG approaches its first anniversary. Beyond the massive May update, Bethesda Game Studios previously confirmed it is working on a DLC titled Shattered Space. Though details on the paid expansion are slim, Bethesda seemingly confirmed it focuses on the House Va'ruun.

Todd Howard says Starfield's criticism is "perfectly understandable" as the RPG is a "different experience" to Bethesda's other games. 

Back when the Fallout show first hit our TV screens, you couldn't move online due to the sheer number of New Vegas fans that had made it halfway through the show before announcing that it had somehow disrespected the game by making changes to the lore. Many claimed that it had somehow removed New Vegas from Fallout canon (it didn't) and that Todd Howard was secretly the mastermind behind the change, all in an effort to get back at developer Obsidian Entertainment for making a good Fallout game.

In fact, according to The Verge, multiple upcoming first-party games are going to get official release date announcements.

While Starfield has seen plenty of noteworthy content updates since its release in September of last year, many players — particularly those who already purchased the premium edition of the game — are still waiting on the release of its DLC before they jump back into it.

Of course, its over-the-top, retro-futuristic Americana satirization is a core aspect of what makes Fallout, Fallout, but on new few occasions, large chunks of the series’ fanbase have wondered how locations outside of the US are faring in Fallout’s post-apocalyptic setting, and whether they could fare as suitable settings for a future Fallout game.
