During the lengthy Kinda Funny Gamecast interview mainly focused on Fallout, Bethesda's Todd Howard revealed a big Starfield update coming this week to the Steam beta branch. The first story expansion, Shattered Space, will be released this Fall.
In the update that we have coming - I think it's going to get announced in a few days, actually this week, and be up on Steam beta - it's got some great stuff for shipbuilding in it as well.

This is a separate update. Shattered Space is in the Fall, but we have a big update that's coming really soon to Starfield and does a lot of stuff. We redid the map stuff, so we have some city map stuff.
Howard also discussed the feedback the team got after Starfield launched, acknowledging that exploration is different in this game than in Elder Scrolls or Fallout due to the setting. He even teased new display modes (read: high frame rate options) on consoles.
Obviously, we see the feedback; we see a lot of players saying, this is what I want out of a Bethesda game, which is to explore a world in a certain way, and Starfield didn't give me that; I prefer the way it's done in Fallout or Elder Scrolls. That's perfectly understandable right in terms of, hey, this is a different experience. I do think for us, particularly me, going into a science fiction game, I want to be able to land on all the planets, I want the game to say yes to us, knowing that that content is going to be different than you've seen from us in the past when you're exploring a landscape. That's some of the trade-offs we'll make to do what we think makes a science fiction game. Each of the franchises should kind of be its own thing.
Obviously, there are areas we're working on, like the maps or some other things, gameplay options that we're adding, and other display modes on consoles that people have asked for. We want to do all that stuff. It takes some time, but we're excited to get stuff out there.
Lastly, Howard mentioned that the Starfield Creation Kit (the modding tools) has already been delivered to some creators. More information about it should be shared soon by Bethesda.

Starfield is set to add some long-awaited features with its upcoming update, including graphics modes on console, expanded ship building options, surface maps, and much more, while later on in the year, Bethesda Game Studios will also finally be adding a land vehicle to the game. Beyond that, however, the developer is also working on a full-fledged expansion for the space-faring RPG in the form of Shattered Steel, and though not much is known about it yet, some interesting new details may have potentially been unearthed.
It's a pretty exciting time to be a Starfield fan at the moment, with Todd Howard revealing that the game's Shattered Space DLC will release this Fall, and that land vehicles are finally being added at some point in the near future. However, Bethesda may have also accidentally shown us something it didn't mean to in that same video, as there's a brief moment in which story details for Shattered Space may have been revealed.
NVIDIA has announced an update to the NvRTX branch of Epic's Unreal Engine 5. The major new feature is the addition of experimental support for ReSTIR Global Illumination, the ray tracing algorithm first discussed by NVIDIA researchers in the seminal paper Spatiotemporal Reservoir Resampling for Real-Time Ray Tracing with Dynamic Direct Lighting released at ACM SIGGRAPH 2020.
Starfield Update 4, which launched in Steam Beta on May 1, seems to have finally satisfied a lot of fans who had previously abandoned Bethesda's outer space RPG. After a lackluster player reception at launch, fan reaction to this newest Starfield update seems to be overwhelmingly positive.
's 1.11.33 update is now live, and it brings one of the most highly requested features to the game. This is the biggest update to the game since launch. That's drawn some criticism, as updates have been slow to come. However, announcements this week suggest that Bethesda hasn't forgotten about: the DLC finally has a release window, and for the first time since release, it seems like there's a concrete roadmap for moving forward.
Bethesda has inadvertently teased that Starfield's Shattered Space DLC may have a lot to do with one of the game's main factions, House Va'ruun. Starfield has just recently revealed a major new update that will finally bring maps to each major city, add new icons for the different shops and eateries, provide new ways for players to customize their ships, and much more.
Starfield will have a big year as the space RPG approaches its first anniversary. Beyond the massive May update, Bethesda Game Studios previously confirmed it is working on a DLC titled Shattered Space. Though details on the paid expansion are slim, Bethesda seemingly confirmed it focuses on the House Va'ruun.
Microsoft has announced that the Xbox Games Showcase will be returning on June 9, and given the many first-party titles the company has in the pipeline for 2024, it seems safe to assume that it’s going to be a packed show. In fact, according to The Verge, multiple upcoming first-party games are going to get official release date announcements.
Starfield director Todd Howard finally shares some new details regarding the game's upcoming Shattered Space story expansion, and though it looks like it's still quite a while away from release, players can also expect to see a few significant updates in the meantime. While Starfield has seen plenty of noteworthy content updates since its release in September of last year, many players — particularly those who already purchased the premium edition of the game — are still waiting on the release of its DLC before they jump back into it.
Wow, remember Starfield? I do, just about, although any interest in it feels like a distant dream now. But not to Todd Howard! The Bethesboss had a chat with Kinda Funny and confirmed that Shattered Space, the first big DLC for the brave little space RPG that could, has a release window of "in the fall". Shattered Space adds new locations and stories and gear, and is the sort of DLC that was announced before the game came out, and you got it bundled with some of the super mega hyper awesome pre-order editions (you can still get it bundled with the Starfield Premium Edition if you want to spend an extra 30 quid).
