Three more retro games added to Switch Online, including Castlevania Legends

The Atari 2600 is one of the first systems that often comes to mind with the thought of retro video games. Now the original console has been recreated in exquisite detail by PLAION and Atari with their updated version, the Atari 2600+. It is an exact 1:1 replica of the original machine and even the same CX40+ Joystick, but now offers USB power connectors, HDMI output, multiple screen resolutions, and is backwards compatible with both the Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridges of the past. It is a beautiful console that is incredibly fun for nostalgic purposes, but even after more than fifty years, it is not flawless in its gameplay mechanics.

We are a week into November and the penultimate month of the year brings another healthy lineup of game releases. This month, we're getting an eclectic lineup of games — from a throwback adaptation of an 80s cult cyberpunk film to a much-anticipated remake of a beloved Super Nintendo classic. Perhaps the biggest release of November is the next Call of Duty. On November 10, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 comes out, continuing the story of the reboot trilogy. In its second quarter fiscal year 2024 financial results, Nintendo provided updated figures for Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. The two services total over 38 million accounts as of September 30th, up from the 36 million announced last year. The recently released F-Zero 99, exclusive to the service, is also “enjoyed by many people.”

Gaming hardware specialist Razer has expanded the portfolio of its mice that can utilise its HyperPolling technology. With a simple firmware update, you'll be able to set the polling rate to anywhere between 125 and 8,000Hz, and enjoy ultra smooth mouse motion in Windows and games.

Blizzard is likely working on more mobile games, as company president Mike Ybarra says that he wants to see the IPs "everywhere". This comes as Ybarra sets out Blizzard's plans now that its merger with Microsoft is complete, and it's bad news for anyone hoping the company would go back to its PC and console gaming roots.

Atari has announced an agreement to acquire Digital Eclipse. The studio is known for its expertise in digitally restoring and preserving retro titles such as Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration.

Nintendo has unveiled the next games getting added to the Switch Online Service. The NES service gets The Mysterious Murasame Castle (Nazo no Murasame-Jou) and Devil World, while the Game Boy gets Castlevania: Legends.
