Super Mario Bros. Wonder is set to debut on the Switch on October 20, and it’s looking incredibly colorful and sleek. But if you’re looking for something a little…older, this fan-made commercial should do the trick.
Straight from the mind of the YouTube channel Luiz do Comercial, this video is a blast from the past. Aimed at recreating the somber yet powerful aesthetic of 1988, the clip reimagines the modern Super Mario Wonder as a classic NES game. In case you’re wondering, yes, they do the “Now You’re Playing with Power” slogan at the end.
In a fascinating turn, the creator notes that the inspiration came from an unlikely place: a retro remake concept of Mario Wonder by Nimaginendo Games. It also draws upon elements of Mario 2, including the in-game visuals. As Luiz notes: “This was a very audacious project, because in addition to the 3D and 2D, I had to do all the pixel art for the supposed NES game!”
Given that I was around for the height of the NES’ success in America, these types of fan-made projects speak to me in a big way. This one, in particular, is really spot on, from the hazy ’80s/’90s viewing experience to the booming horror-like voiceover effect.
It brings me back to a time when we were constantly advertised to by a faceless void-like entity; before the attitude-ridden ’90s came along and changed things considerably. By then, people were on-screen screaming in our faces. Game marketing is a fascinating microcosm of weirdness!

The Mario series has a long history of allowing players to mess around with characters who aren’t Mario. Even as far back as the first Mario games, people could play as his green-hatted brother, Luigi. Super Mario Wonder continues this tradition, although not necessarily in the way you might expect.
Every level in Super Mario Wonder has a bunch of collectables to track down and, well, collect. These boil down to Flags, Purple Flower Coins, and Wonder Seeds. If you are gunning for 100% completion, you are going to have to track all of these down, and that can be easier said than done.
Super Mario Wonder is finally here, and boy, has it been a long wait. Rereleases aside, we haven’t seen a new 2D Mario game in over a decade, which is bonkers if you ask us. Thankfully, the wait was worth it because Super Mario Wonder is absolutely fantastic in all the right ways.
Collectables are not a new-fangled concept – especially not when they are applied to platformers. Super Mario Wonder has a few collectables to, well, collect, and hunting them down is well worth the effort. Not only do they help you progress through the game, but some of them can be exchanged for goodies.
Suikoden 3 is receiving some love with a fan-made HD remaster.
It's Friday, and I have found another fun thing to share with you all, this time in Halo Infinite's Forge mode.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is finally here, and you can celebrate in physical merch form with this new My Nintendo reward. Nintendo now has a listing for the “Super Mario Bros. Wonder Double Keychain,” which features Mario in his normal and elephant forms (hence the “double”). It’s a little strange having Mario and his presumed doppelganger on there instead of another character, but what are you gonna do: he sells merch!

There’s quite a bit of variety coming to the Nintendo Switch eShop this week, and I’m not even counting the cavalcade of games below! Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the clear headliner, and we have a review for it! It seems as if Nintendo has brought back 2D Mario in style, and I can’t wait to give it a shot with some friends.
It's Super Mario Bros. Wonder week. It's also Marvel's Spider-Man 2 week and Sonic Superstars week in what might well be the busiest few days for big releases in video game history. If the review scores are anything to go by, Wonder is the game people are most excited about. Makes sense as it's the first major Mario game hitting Nintendo Switch since the plumber's movie grossed more than $1 billion. It will also introduce Elephant Mario to the Mushroom Kingdom, and Nintendo has already confirmed the main character's new look will be turned into a plush.
Our favourite plumber returns today, finally! You've probably read the review already—it's a damn fine sequel that ought to be bought. And this is where I come in, with the cheapest prices in the Mushroom or any other kingdom.
