The Witcher 3 patch adds next-gen and Netflix content to Switch version

The Witcher's creator has disputed the view that the books are inspired by Slavic mythology.

And while the verdict hasn't quite been delivered on whether or not a "Switch 2" would have the feature, one major publisher doesn't seem too concerned about the prospect: Take-Two Interactive.

The Witcher season 3 may have just come to an end on Netflix, but it’s elsewhere in the Witcher universe that the latest big news is coming from. On a new livestream Thursday, Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski said that he’s working on another book in the series, which would be the first one in a decade.

The Witcher producer Tomasz Bagiński has reacted to the ongoing backlash that the Netflix series has faced for changing details from its source material. As many will be aware, the show is based on Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski’s series of books. While it broadly follows these, some elements have been changed, which has been a source of ire from some fans.

One of the most common criticisms of The Witcher on Netflix is that it strays too far from Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. It may have been a source of some tension behind the scenes, too: Former series star Henry Cavill made a point of saying he «pushed really, really hard» to stay true to the books, while also claiming that some of the writers on the show «actively disliked» them. There's no question that some aspects of the novel have been simplified for the TV show, and in an interview with Polish site Wyborcza (translated by Witcher fan site Redanian Intelligence), executive producer Tomek Baginski explained why some of those changes were made: "[A] higher level of nuance and complexity will have a smaller range."

Henry Cavill’s final scenes as Geralt of Rivia have now aired as part of the release of The Witcher season 3 volume 2. In them, we see Cavill’s monster hunter walking off into the distance with Jaskier (Joey Batey) and Milva (Meng'er Zhang) as they begin their trek to find Ciri.

With the exit of one Witcher actor comes the entrance of another and fans are desperate to get a first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt in season 4. While, at the time of writing, there hasn’t been any official reveal of Hemsworth in costume, fans have taken matters into their own hands with deepfakes and concept art.

Nintendo’s next-generation console is slowly starting to come into focus. The Switch successor is slated for release in the second half of 2024, according to a new report from VGC, citing anonymous development sources. Some “key partner studios” reportedly already have development kits for the Switch successor.
