The Sims 5, still officially known by the codename Project Rene, will be free-to-play. Further, the mega-popular life simulator, The Sims 4, will continue to receive new updates and peacefully cohabitate alongside it. We also got the down-low on the first new Stuff Pack in more than two-and-a-half years, if that wasn't enough.
EA appears to prefer the terminology «free-to-download» in the latest episode of its Behind the Sims series, where it was confirmed that support for The Sims 4 would continue «for the foreseeable future». Further reveals of how multiplayer would work in The Sims 5 were teased for the coming year, and players will need to remain patient, as it won't be released until «it's ready».

It's a little odd that they're going to continue supporting The Sims 4. I think The Sims 4 is pretty unplayable on console these days. Even if you install it on PS5, it runs really slow and basically isn't fit for purpose anymore.
Whole thing could do with a refresh IMO.
My daughter loves the sims 4 on her xbox and has purchased a few of the add on packs with birthday money etc. I can see this being a complete cash cow with it being free to download and thats one cow i will not be feeding. Its one thing having a complete game then additional full themed packs for purchase but this sounds like everything you get will be the basic crap no one wants then you will buy everything additionally. £10 for a wardrobe anyone? No thanks.
3 was better than 4 in my opinion. Being able to just walk around without loading screens made the world feel bigger and more alive. I wish console versions would let you control the movement of a character rather than point and click like the PC version. Also, I think the Switch is the perfect console for a Sims game, even if it's a spin off, so I hope they bring one to the Switch. I also like the free to play thing if the extras are bundled.
