There’s a good chance if you were trying to play your PS5 last night, you may have been hit by some server issues. There was a widespread global outage during the middle of the night in the UK, which affected the peak evening window in the United States. All of the issues were resolved within a couple of hours or so, but obviously you wouldn’t have been able to play online-only titles, like the newly released Honkai: Star Rail.

The surprising revelation that Jim Ryan will retire as Sony Interactive Entertainment’s President and CEO at the end of March 2024 has been, perhaps predictably, met with glee from most corners of the wider video game world. In addition to courting controversy on a number of occasions, the British executive’s tenure has largely been marred by a change in corporate goals: an emphasis on games as a service which has yet to really bear fruit, a lack of engagement with enthusiasts, and a blank slate of upcoming first-party releases.

With Sony announcing that PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan will be retiring in April of next year, this kind of message from Phil Spencer was inevitable. The Xbox boss has taken to Twitter in order to praise 63-year-old Ryan's impact on the industry, as you'd expect.

An anniversary update will be available for Cuphead later today, but your PS4 version of the game won't be downloading it. StudioMDHR has dedicated its latest slice of content to the Xbox community — describing it as a «love letter» — since it was the first to play the game upon its original launch. Cuphead was ported to PS4 roughly three years later in July of 2020 but its DLC The Delicious Last Course arrived day and date with other platforms.

Google Trends data has a registered a 277 per cent increase in “delete PlayStation account” searches following an alleged data breach earlier this week. A ransomware group claimed to have “successfully compromised all of Sony’s systems”, with the stolen data purportedly up for sale. The Japanese giant has responded by insisting it’s investigating the situation.

Not to be outdone, Ubisoft is apparently getting in on the animated arms race currently underway on streaming service Netflix, and in a rather surprising way. Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is an imaginative take on the larger Ubiverse, and it's headed for Netflix alongside the just-announced Devil May Cry and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft animated outings. Unlike the others, this one has a date, so expect things to get increasingly bizarre from 19th October.

High on Life is getting its first major piece of paid DLC next week. It's called High on Knife, and you can get up close and personal with the experience from 3rd October. We got a predictably odd claymation trailer announcing the offering, and while you should still expect a somewhat silly experience, the developers wanted to make things a little bit spooky this time around.

Payday 3 is the third entry in the always online, one-to-four-player, cooperative heist FPS series from Starbreeze Studios. Returning from retirement, the Payday crew have not only moved to terrorise a new city, from Washington DC to New York, but also moved game engine from Payday 2’s Diesel into the more robust Unreal Engine 4.

Ubisoft has outed the existence of The Division 3 — the next game in its looter shooter series. The title is currently in early development, and that's pretty much all we've got to go on. Just to give you an idea of what 'early' means, the team at Massive Entertainment — the lead developer on both of the previous Division games — is now recruiting for the project. So yeah, it's early.

It was hinted at in the game's latest trailer, but now it's been confirmed through an official press release: Persona 3 Reload will feature all-new story scenes and additional character interactions. Overall, the remake will obviously stick to the original plot, but it sounds like Atlus has taken this opportunity to expand upon all sorts of stuff, such as Strega — the antagonist group.
