Today, ArenaNet revealed that the second content update for Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure, called The Realm of Dreams, will be available for free starting February 27.
Players will be able to explore a brand new portion of Nayos, home to the dreadful Kryptis. Two new legendary bosses will be introduced to Convergences, the nighttime 50-player group instances introduced with November's Through the Veil update.
Arguably the biggest additions of The Realm of Dreams update are the brand new weapon proficiencies. Unlike previous expansions, Secrets of the Obscure did not add new Elite Specialization. However, starting next week, each of the nine professions (classes in Guild Wars 2) will be able to wield new weapons:
The new weapon proficiencies were first tested in a beta event a couple of months ago, providing feedback for a series of improvements that ArenaNet has made for the final version. You can read about those here.
Moreover, Legendary Relics are being introduced, as well as the first tier of the new Legendary Obsidian Armor Set. The Realm of Dreams update includes an overhaul to the Wizard's Vault to provide players with new items and rewards, while the Temple of Febe Strike mission introduces Challenge Mode, a harder difficulty option for the most skilled adventurers. Last but not least, the update adds a new Ranger pet and expands the Astral Ward Mastery line.
Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure will receive yet another free content update later this year, ahead of the next expansion also scheduled to launch in 2024. You can read more about that in our recent interview with ArenaNet.

Formally addressing community unrest stirred in part by recent comments from its CEO, Temtem developer Crema released a lengthy statement explaining the future of the game, why it's sort of but also not really an MMO, as well as the other games it's working on.
We’re almost there! We’re almost at the release date for the second title in the “remake saga” for Square Enix’s beloved title. The game is anticipated in so many ways it’s hard to define, so that’s why you might be surprised that Final Fantasy VII Remake, the game that kicked the remake saga, has just gotten an update! Given that it’s been four years since the initial remake title dropped, you might have to wonder why they’re updating anything now. The answer is that some small changes to Tifa and Aerith have been done to possibly “tie into” the upcoming game more.
New week, yet more videogames! Gosh, those developers are incorrigible. I would characterise this week's new game releases as a gentle blend of cosy simulation and nostalgia, served on a bed of fantasy roguelikes. If I had to pick a most-anticipated, it'd be a toss-up between the remaster of a shooter I adored in my teens and the breezy amateur photography game that teaches you the kanji for "flower".
This week's Nintendo Direct was stuffed full of games that will also be making their way to PC over the next few months, but the one I haven't been able to stop thinking about is the newly-announced Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure. It's the debut game from a team of indie devs that include Braid artist David Hellman, Carto writer Nick Suttner and Ethereal designer Nicolás Recabarren, and they've also partnered with composer Tomás Batista, who did the music for both Ethereal and Martian colony builder Per Aspera. It's a pretty stacked line-up as these things go, but it's Arranger's world of constantly shifting sliding tiles that's really piqued my curiosity. Come and watch the lovely announcement trailer below and see what I mean.
