The First Descendant – Gamescom 2023: Opening Night Live trailer

The First Descendant is busy ramping up hype for its open beta — which is dropping on the 19th September — and so we're being treated to a new 4K gameplay trailer. You can catch glimpses of different playable characters, their loadouts, and their unique abilities, as well as huge boss enemies that'll require teamwork to bring down efficiently.

At a glance, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden owes a lot to Sony’s recent God of War outings. Its close third-person camera perspective, linear-but-open level design, and mix of environmental puzzles and hard-hitting melee combat are all present. But there’s more than meets the eye here. After playing a whole quest I’ve discovered that beneath that surface lies a soul just as connected to the Life is Strange series developer Don't Nod is famed for as it is to Sony’s godly behemoth.

The chainsword is one of my favourite weapons in all of science fiction. It has the form factor of a medieval longsword, but the blade is made up of dozens of chainsaw teeth that rip and tear through flesh. In a single strike it captures both the gothic aesthetic and violent excess of Warhammer 40,000. And this weapon is the brutal, snarling heart of the long-awaited Space Marine 2.

What’s it like to be trapped in a hell of your own making? For writer Alan Wake, that’s the story he’s trying to tell. And after watching a full 40-minute demo, played from the perspective of Wake himself, it certainly looks set to be a tale worth telling. Taking place in an area called The Dark Place, this lengthy slice of the story follows Alan as he makes his way through an oppressive and haunting replica of New York City riddled with danger, gunfights, and puzzles. It’s classic survival horror but with the distinct edge of developer Remedy - smart, engrossing, and consistently odd.

Nexon had a busy Opening Night Live today, dropping trailers for a few of their upcoming games. The First Descendant, the multiplayer looter shooter RPG, got a trailer ahead of next month's beta, while Warhaven saw a trailer highlighting its September 21st release.

At Gamescom Opening Night Live, The First Descendant developer Nexon showed off an action-packed new trailer for the game.

miHoYo has released a new trailer for “urban fantasy action RPG” Zenless Zone Zero as part of Gamescom 2023: Opening Night Live.

Nexon’s The First Descendant was one of several games to take the stage at Gamescom Opening Night Live, with a new trailer showcased for the upcoming free-to-play looter shooter action RPG.

Little Nightmares 3 has been revealed with a haunting new trailer shown at Gamescom Opening Night 2023, offering the first look at a new cast of horrors and a spooky new location to navigate. A third game was announced to be in development in May 2023, so the announcement trailer is a surprise, to say the least. 

If ever there was a comic book element that was destined to become the signature weapon of a video game, it’s Hellboy’s Right Hand of Doom. I mean just look at it – a massive stone fist made purely for beating the seven bells out of massive monsters. And that’s exactly what you do in Hellboy Web of Wyrd (pronounced ‘wurd’, not ‘weird’), a roguelite brawler that looks like the contents of a Mike Mignola comic emptied onto your screen.
