Dragon's Dogma 2 dropped to impressively high review scores last month, earning Capcom yet another hit with critics — but now that it's been out for a little while, we want to know what you think of this open world RPG. Indeed, player opinion seems to be a bit more divided, although we're well aware that some people have been waiting 12 years for this sequel, and that fact might have counted towards heightened expectations.

CD Projekt RED has essentially committed to none of its future single player games featuring microtransactions as the Polish developer states it doesn't «see a place for microtransactions in the case of single player games». The studio's CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said as such in an investor's chat via StockWatch.pl, but the micro-purchases are something the team could explore for online experiences: «We do not rule out that we will use this solution in the future in the case of multiplayer projects.»

A senior CD Projekt Red official has gone on record to state that the studio doesn't believe microtransactions have a place in single-player games. And while that move effectively reiterated the company's long-standing stance on game monetization, CD Projekt Red isn't entirely ruling out the possibility of implementing microtransactions in the future.

Grandia HD Collection bundles together two classic JRPG adventures from the tail-end of the genre's golden age, a series that has long since fallen by the wayside. Rise of the Ronin has been out for just over a week now, and so we want to know what you think of Team Ninja's open world action RPG. Published by Sony itself, this PS5 exclusive was met with somewhat divided reviews, and so currently sits at a 76 on Metacritic. User impressions have been more lenient overall, but it's still hard to shake the feeling that Rise of the Ronin has struggled to make any kind of significant impact.

Vladimir Putin has signed off on a plan to create Russia's own consoles and Steam-like platform. This is one of nine instructions that are supposed to promote the socio-economic development of the region of Kaliningrad, the Russian exclave located between Lithuania and Poland. Shift Up’s demo for Stellar Blade, its upcoming hack-and-slash action RPG, is now available for PS5 players after accidentally going live earlier this month. Featuring the opening section, it sees players controlling Eve as she battles the Naytiba. The demo is roughly an hour long and outlines the basics of combat while featuring the first boss fight.

The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 creators CD Projekt Red have reported their earnings for 2023 (their fiscal year corresponds with the regular calendar year) and it seems it was a good 12 months for the Polish publisher. 2023 was CDPR’s second-best year ever, thanks to the sales of the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion, which managed to move 5 million copies, which is added to the 20 million in sales for the original Cyberpunk 2077. CDPR has also announced that The Witcher series surpassed 75 million units sold last year. So, yes, if you’re doing the math (75 million for the Witcher, 25 million for Cyberpunk) CDPR has now sold over 100 million games. Not bad!

Critical Hit Games has announced their 2024 game Nobody Wants to Die with a cinematic announcement trailer, which is absolutely gorgeous.

Highwater is a story-driven tactical strategy game set in a ruined and flooded world. You play as Nikos as he sets off in his dinghy to try and reach Alphaville, where he plans to sneak onto a rocket that the ultra rich are using to escape the ruined Earth they destroyed. While it might be a premonition from the future and it looks good on a surface level, there is a lack of polish and depth here that undercuts the game’s better qualities.

Rise of the Ronin, the latest tentpole PS5 console exclusive from legendary Japanese developer Team Ninja, has been subject to a colossal marketing push in Asia, where posters and billboards have been spotted around cities such as Taipei for several weeks now. That’s all culminated in an Edo period art exhibition in Huashan 1914 Creative Park – coincidentally, the former home of a Japanese sake manufacturer– where Sony has installed several 19th-century props inspired by the game.
