A Super Mario Bros. fan has 3D printed an impressive custom Piranha Plant and Warp Pipe Switch dock. Since the Switch was released, multiple third parties have made their own docks for the console, but this one could be the most unique.
Nintendo made history in 2017 by having the first hybrid console made by one of the big three industry manufacturers. Due to the hybrid nature of the Nintendo Switch, owners either play the console handheld or on the TV. Because of the portability of the Switch, many gamers have multiple docks so they can take the unit from one TV to another. Going beyond the official or the third-party Switch dock equivalents, some fans have custom units that implement the same tech. Noticing a design flaw in a Switch dock available on Etsy, one Super Mario Bros. fan has made an incredible Piranha Plant dock.
YouTuber Below Average Gaming recently shared a video showing off how they created a unique Piranha Plant Switch dock. The content creator was inspired by a Switch dock that he received as a gift which was less sturdy than they anticipated based on its online listing. Similar to its inspiration, this Piranha Plant dock features rails to connect up to 4 JoyCons and slots for 24 individual Nintendo Switch game cartridges. Unlike the inspiration, the YouTuber's Piranha Plant looks more accurate to the Super Mario Bros. character. This iteration has 3D-printed teeth, thorns going up the vine, and a Warp Pipe base that has three components threaded together.
Below Average Gaming primarily used Fusion 360 to nail the design of the Piranha Plant Switch dock. For the YouTuber to achieve the right shape, they implemented the measurements and design of a standard Nintendo Switch console to create the dock inside the Piranha Plant's mouth. A motherboard is wired at the base of the inside of the Warp Pipe which includes HDMI, USB, and USB-C ports on the front. Compared to the former dock, this YouTuber's creation covers most of the Nintendo Switch screen, it's a bit shorter, and it doesn't tip over. The video concludes with footage highlighting how well the Piranha Plant dock works, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe running in the background.
Given how popular Super Mario Bros. and its spinoff titles are on the Nintendo Switch, this Piranha Plant dock may be coveted by many fans. Although Below Average Gaming didn't share the Fusion 360 files they used, the highlighted design process may help others make similar projects.

Koji Kondo joined Nintendo in 1984 and ended up composing basically every memorable theme from the Mario or Zelda series. The legendary composer had a particularly wild idea for a stage effect in last year's Super Mario Bros Wonder, and while that idea was rejected, it did end up giving Kondo the opportunity to bring his voice to the game.
It's not often we get to hear a senior developer of a Super Mario Bros. game philosophise about game design. At gamescom last year, Takashi Tezuka, executive officer at Nintendo and producer on Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Shiro Mouri, the game's director, gave us a glimpse, as they spoke with Eurogamer about their intentions for Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
This past weekend was the busiest yet in what has already been a busy year for video game releases. Dragon's Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin, and Princess Peach: Showtime all launched on the same day. Something for almost every type of game, and if Showtime is what you've been playing over the weekend, you may now want to kit yourself out in matching merch. Nintendo has a Peach Collection available now, and the message on the collection's tags is a cool tip of the hat to how far Peach has come and how her role has changed.
Two Pokemon fans online have shared their amazing «Pokebug boxes,» which they have created using real-life bugs. There's something about Pokemon that seems to bring out the most creative sides of gamers, and these Pokebug boxes are a great example of this.
Ever since it was announced that the 3DS and Wii U's online services would be shut down in April, a dedicated group of Super Mario Maker fans set out on a mission to complete every level in the game that was yet to be beaten. That sounds simple, but levels in Super Mario Maker usually remain unbeaten because they're monstrously difficult, with only a handful of players capable of even getting close to completing them.
An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has created a neat concept for Bat Villagers. Nintendo has expanded on the number of animal species featured in Animal Crossing: New Horizons compared to earlier titles, and this idea could be perfect for the next installment.

Last year, Nintendo brought Mario back to his 2D roots with a surprise new game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The critically acclaimed platformer was an instant crowd-pleaser thanks in no small part to its namesake feature, Wonder Effects. These power-ups completely transformed Mario’s world, letting its developers experiment with wacky ideas from wiggling pipes to singing Piranha Plants.
The developers behind Super Mario Bros. Wonder recently shared some unused Wonder Effect designs at this year’s Game Developers Conference. The latest mainline Mario platformer launched on the Nintendo Switch in October to rave reviews and record-breaking sales figures, with many praising Super Mario Bros. Wonder for its colorful graphics and imaginative additions to the classic 2D Mario formula.
could have had far more silly and bizarre elements, according to the game's creators. The title already saw the introduction of new power-ups that could transform the player into an elephant — something that Mario's creator, Shigeru Miyamoto reportedly wasn't a fan of in the early design stages, saying it didn't look like a Mario character -, provide them with a drill to burrow into the ground or up into the ceiling, or a bubble-spewing flower to capture enemies.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder was a much-needed shake up for the 2D series, giving our favorite Italian plumber a design change and a creative new world to explore. You never really knew what you were going to get when starting a new level, and a lot of that was down to the Wonder Effects, which drastically altered each level every time you picked up a Wonder Seed.
