Striking Distance Studios has revealed Project Birdseye, a roguelike spin-off of The Callisto Protocol universe. In 2022, Striking Distance Studios released The Callisto Protocol, a survival horror game. The game is set in space and centered around a man fighting through the breakout of an illness on a starship, which, in premise and tone, bore stark resemblances to Dead Space. These similarities caught the attention of fans, who were excited to see the project led by Dead Space creator Glen Schofield.
The Callisto Protocol released to mixed reviews, most notably suffering performance issues in its PC release, which caused Steam users to give the game many negative reviews. Recent reception on Steam has shifted towards positive, now that stuttering, general performance, and optimization issues have been fixed in patches. Despite its mixed reception, the game picked up plenty of attention for different features like being so violent that some gamers consider it one of the goriest games of all time, or its cast, including Transformers actor Josh Duhamel and The Boys star Karen Fukuhara. Since then, Striking Distance has focused its efforts on several new projects, one of which has now been revealed.
Fans of The Callisto Protocol may be excited to hear about the new installment in the series' universe titled Project Birdseye. This game is a «super fast action-roguelike» with a cartoon-ish art style similar to that of the Borderlands series. During the trailer, it is mentioned that this game is being developed alongside Striking Distance's next AAA Game. It is currently unclear whether this additional game or Project Birdseye are the new Unreal Engine 5 game from Striking Distance, or if that is something different.
In the one-minute trailer for Project Birdseye, plenty of gameplay is displayed, emphasizing the ideas «fight, die, adapt, upgrade.» The top-down bird's eye view combat is shown alongside upgrade charts that show «melee schematics,» such as a perk that allows players to repel enemy projectiles by using their melee attack. Some commenters say this game seems like Hades in space, which may excite players hoping Project Birdseye joins the ranks of the many already great roguelike games available to play.
The Callisto Protocol was given a second chance by players after Striking Distance earned its players' trust back by improving the game. Including Project Birdseye, players who have come to appreciate the studio's style may have at least two games to look forward to. Fans of the first game will likely hope that this game does not release with similar issues, and as noted from its excitement to loop fans in on the earlier stages of the development process, Striking Distance appears intent on listening

Of the many gaming subscriptions out there, the $11.99 per month Humble Choice is one of the good ones. That’s partially because Choice lets you keep and play PC games you received through the service, even if you choose to unsubscribe later on (unlike Xbox and PlayStation’s respective subscriptions). There are other benefits that I’ll explain below, but I won’t bury the lede any further.
Layoffs are sweeping the gaming industry and Ubisoft has announced more. Nearly 10,000 people were laid off last year as the industry started to shift in a different direction. Many companies are looking towards live service games to make the money necessary to survive and Ubisoft has been a part of this trend. Its Skull and Bones was released in February, and continues to capitalize on the live service concept. Regardless, it seems preventing layoffs was not possible.

Sony has finally added PC support to PlayStation VR2, but it comes with the caveat of needing to own a PS5. The PS VR2 has been one of Sony's most interesting endeavors this generation. There have been many releases that have pulled the attention of PlayStation fans open to the tech, such as Resident Evil 4: VR Mode, which some gamers believe is the best way to play the remake of one of Capcom's greatest hits. There have been obstacles adjusting to VR, though.

After channelling the atmosphere and gory terror of Dead Space (though alas, not its reception) in 2022’s sci-fi horror shooter, The Callisto Protocol is apparently now looking to the likes of Hades to inspire a new roguelike spin-off set in its universe, currently codenamed Project Birdseye.
