Street Fighter 6 just released its first trailer of Akuma. While Capcom had previously teased Akuma's Street Fighter 6 debut with a 2023 year-end tweet, many fans still awaited the raging demon's arrival in the game. The character's rich lore within the Street Fighter franchise has grown into epic proportions ever since his debut in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and has made him one of the series' fan favorites.
With Street Fighter 6's story mode clearly focused on its World Tour, it's still a mystery about what part Akuma will play in the game. While DLC does not necessarily mean involvement in the story, many fans are hoping that Capcom integrates the character into the mode in a befitting manner. Especially since a lot of the moves that Akuma does would fit quite well into those looking to add some more darkness into the protagonist's set.
As posted on Street Fighter 6's YouTube channel, fans got their first teaser trailer for the character. With a dramatically stylized setting, the video showed the now massive-looking Akuma performing several moves onto a statue. Many fans from the comments section noticed his evolution into a bigger, scarier fighter. Some have mentioned his tragic development in the story, with Ryu finding peace, yet Akuma had sunk even deeper into madness. Some have said that this Street Fighter 6 appearance might become another reason as to why Akuma is truly one of the top villains in the Street Fighter franchise.
The end graphic then showed that Akuma would be arriving in Spring 2024 for Street Fighter 6's World Tour, Battle Hub, and Fighting Ground. The comments section also provided several assumptions and inputs on how Capcom could integrate him into the story, with some quipping how cool it would be to have Akuma as a Street Fighter 6 master. Some even humorously quipped about how the developers would turn him into a lowly fruit vendor before unveiling his appearance on World Tour. However, in all seriousness, a lot of other fans have expressed the hype that the trailer has brought.
With Akuma also serving as the final DLC fighter for Street Fighter 6's Year 1, it will be exciting to see what Year 2 will hold. The Akuma trailer serves as a truly epic showcase for the character, but it also serves as a bar that Capcom will need to clear with the next waves of DLC to follow. With how iconic Akuma is, it will be quite a task to open Year 2's DLC characters and match the fans' expectations.
