Stray

Stray is a narrative adventure for PS5 and PS4 in which you play as a cute little cat. Developed by BlueTwelve Studio and published by Annapurna Interactive, this is a linear game in which you explore a futuristic dystopia inhabited by robots, using feline agility to get around and solve puzzles. We really enjoyed the experience, awarding the game an 8/10 in our Stray PS5 review.

From the minute I read the words «roleplaying musical,» I wondered how well musical theater and video games would merge on the latter's home turf. After all, we've seen video games make the jump to the real-world stage a few times in history – Japan's Ace Attorney musicals and The Last Of Us: One Night Live spring to mind. However, a video game taking the form of a Broadway musical is a much rarer affair, and Stray Gods is a perfect example of what makes that adaptation so difficult. A great (if predictable) story, enhanced by some incredible musical performances, is limited by the medium chosen to host it, which creates a fun but imperfect experience. 

Strays producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller had no intention of doing their R-rated dog comedy by halves – including one of the NSFW moments teased in its first trailers.

I expected a decent game. Instead, I received a masterpiece. The music isn't really my thing but it is very well done.

Growing up, musicals were a huge part of my life, from performing Charlie & the Chocolate Factory as an elementary student to co-writing a rendition of Romeo & Juliet as a modern-style musical for the local area. As a huge musical theatre fan, the idea of a musical game in Stray Gods is an exciting idea.
