In the world of toys and collectibles, whether a video game, movie, or TV series has truly made it can be determined by how many Lego sets and Funko Pops it has. The more time passes, the more Squishmallows can be thrown into that melting pot along with them. Pokemon has Squishmallows, Marvel has Squishmallows, and to mark Squishmallows Day 2024, Jazwares has announced Stranger Things will be joining its Squishmallows family too.
A teaser revealing Squishmallows and Stranger Things are crossing over was posted to the toy's official Instagram account on Thursday, coupled with the caption "The Upside Down just got squishier" with half of the caption upside down. What or who from Hawkins and The Upside Down will be turned into Squishmallows hasn't been revealed. However, with a lot more to come this Squishmallows Day, there's every chance the first designs will be revealed in the coming hours.
Whether revealed a few hours from now or saved for a later date, now is the time to start speculating on what the first wave of Stranger Things Squishmallows might look like. My guess is the five kids who make up the core group in the show will be the first ones revealed, although I'm hoping Jazwares and Netflix are a little more inventive with it than that. I know they don't exactly scream soft and squishy, but a Demogorgon Squishmallow would look pretty great.
The announcement that Stranger Things is getting Squishmallows continues the build to the show's fifth and final season. No firm release date for Stranger Things season five just yet other than an expected arrival in 2025. Stranger Things peaked with season four after it had arguably dropped off during seasons two and three, meaning hype for its finale is at an all-time high. Hopefully that anticipation won't have been eroded by a three-year gap between seasons.
More Squishmallow announcements will be hitting through the day so stay tuned to the toy's social channels and TheGamer for more big news. No indicators yet as to what else might be announced, but we could hear more news regarding Pokemon's next offerings. Its Dragonite design has been shown off and could go on sale today, and if the same leak that revealed Dragonite's Squishmallow is accurate, Marill will be joining the Pokemon range soon too.
