Excitement for the upcoming PS5-exclusive Stellar Blade has been building following the game’s well-received, and refreshingly technically sound, demo dropped, but some folks may still have some questions about the stylish action game. Thankfully, Stellar Blade general director Kim Hyeong-tae and technical director Lee Dong-gi have been doing interviews for various Asian gaming publications that may clear up some of those queries.
On the subject of the game’s length, it seems like the main questline will be around 25 hours. Meanwhile, those who opt to clean up the sidequests and collectibles, could get anywhere from 30 to 50 hours out of the game. Once you do finish the game, you will unlock a hard mode, but there won’t be a New Game+, at least at launch. The game’s makers are hinting NG+ will be added post-launch.

As for monetization, that game won’t have any additional in-game purchases, except for potential crossover content with other series. It hasn’t been determined yet if there will be major DLC, although the usual free updates and new costumes you expect from most Sony-published games will be coming…
“The release of DLC has not been determined, but free updates such as additional costumes are being prepared. We would like to make it clear here that 'Stella Blade' does not require any additional expenses that gamers are not aware of other than the cost of purchasing the package. The only exception is if you create a collaboration costume with another company's IP, that amount can be sold for a fee.”
The hint about collaborations with other IP is an interesting one, particularly given a number of top Japanese creators seem to be interested in Stellar Blade. It seems NieR creator Yoko Taro has been following Stellar Blade, and even Hideo Kojima himself recently met with the game’s director. At the very least, you’ve gotta think a 2B skin is basically a shoo-in (after all, she makes cameos in basically every other game).

Developer Shift Up has issued a new update for Stellar Blade that adds a New Game+ mode before the game has even hit store shelves. Stellar Blade's release date is Friday, April 26, but reviews for the over-the-top action game have gone live. If the reviews are any indication, Stellar Blade is yet another high-quality PlayStation exclusive, and it could very well be one of the better games released all year.
The CEO of troubled Swedish games firm Embracer Group, Lars Wingefors, has admitted that he is deserving of criticism for the current state of his company.
Over four months after Fortnite Festival was released, Harmonix and Epic Games announced that the rhythm game now supports Rock Band 4 plastic guitar controllers.
If you were concerned that the PS5-exclusive Stellar Blade, out 26th April on PS5, might run afoul of Sony's censors, fear not. Developer ShiftUp is advertising that the game will remain entirely uncensored in all regions, including Japan.
Stellar Blade developer Shift Up quite clearly took a lot of inspiration from PS4 great NieR: Automata during the making of its soon-to-be-released PS5 exclusive, but in the case of Automata director Yoko Taro, he thinks that the student has already become the master. In an interview with IGN Japan (via Eurogamer), Taro says Stellar Blade «is a really amazing game. I'd say that it's much better than NieR: Automata.»
Nier Automata's director believes Japanese game developers have had difficulty implementing "Western systems" because it was hard for them to move away from Japanese-made game engines.
Stellar Blade has invited quite a lot of comparisons to other titles in recent weeks, ever since the game's demo officially dropped. First thought to be a Devil May Cry/Bayonetta inspired hack-and-slash, fans jumped into the game to see that developer Shift Up has actually taken a lot of inspiration from the likes of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Nier Automata.
Ahead of Stellar Blade's official release, Nier: Automata director Yoko Taro is sharing his thoughts, deeming it «better» than his own game. Taro recently sat down to discuss Stellar Blade with the game's director, Kim Hyung-tae, revealing why he enjoys the game so much.
Nier: Automata remains one of the most beloved RPGs of the past decade. Released by PlatinumGames in 2017, Yoko Taro’s masterpiece has been adapted into everything from novels to stage plays. Despite its staying power and influence, however, the series creator has even higher praise for the upcoming PlayStation 5 title Stellar Blade.
Nier director Yoko Taro says that the upcoming action RPG Stellar Blade makes him "quite jealous" as he reckons it's "much better" than Automata itself – strong words of praise, if not a tad self-deprecating from Taro.
