State of Play brings another Rise of the Ronin trailer

Yesterday, we brought you word of a brewing controversy surrounding the upcoming PS5 action game Rise of the Ronin after director Fumuhiko Yasuda made some comments alluding to a controversial 19th-century Japanese philosopher. It was supposed that these comments were why Sony confirmed the game would not be released in Korea, but now Sony says it never planned on selling the game in one of the world's most lucrative markets in the first place.

If, like ourselves, you're only passingly familiar with the complex, extremely fraught history between Japan and Korea, you might have missed the significance of specific comments made by Rise of the Ronin director Fumuhiko Yasuda in a behind-the-scenes trailer released last week. We certainly did, despite reporting on the thing, and so were surprised to learn that Sony has since cancelled the upcoming title's Korean release.

Team Ninja, the developers behind Nioh and Ninja Gaiden, have released the first episode in a behind-the-scenes video series focused on the game development of its forthcoming open-world action RPG, Rise of the Ronin.

There have been tons of reports flying around about Nintendo over the last six weeks. Specifically, there are rumors about when the next Direct will happen, or if one will happen at all. Then, there are the rumors about the Switch Successor, what it will be like and when it will arrive. Finally, there are all sorts of rumors about the video games that are either “in the works” at The Big N or “will be announced soon.” It all gets rather mucky when you think about it. So, we’re going to do the opposite, we’re not going to talk about rumors, we’re going to discuss facts.

Nearly a month after the game's launch, Palworld has already sold tens of millions of copies and has been one of 2024's most popular releases. Fans have clearly been enjoying the game, with a variety of creations and content.

Sony has now made a new statement about Rise of the Ronin’s Korean release.

Due to a comment made by director Fumuhiko Yasuda, all physical and digital releases of Rise of the Ronin have been canceled in South Korea. The upcoming Japanese action RPG has been drumming up excitement among fans, but players in Korea will no longer be able to look forward to the game's launch.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has reportedly cancelled plans to release Rise of the Ronin in South Korea.
