Following the rumors and then the confirmation from Microsoft that several Xbox exclusives (Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Pentiment, and Hi-Fi Rush) would launch on rival consoles from Sony and Nintendo, many gamers took that as an admission of defeat in the console war. However, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter shared a completely different view in his latest appearance on Pachter Factor, believing that to be an incorrect perception of Microsoft's true gaming plans.

The future of Xbox is incredibly uncertain right now. What started as rumours that Hi-Fi Rush is coming to PlayStation and Switch has exploded into reports that the company is near-enough dropping exclusives entirely, making many of its games multiplatform. Starfield was said to be one of these games, with the Bethesda RPG reportedly set to come to PS5.
Now, one of the original leakers behind this story is walking back on his claims. Content creator NateTheHate - who previously backed up Xbox Era's report about the Starfield news - now says that his information was "false". He goes on to say that, based on "new information", he believes that "Starfield is not destined for PS5", although he stands by a previous report that more Xbox games will make their way onto the Sony console.
Of course, this doesn't mean that it's definitely not happening. Xbox Era's original report hasn't been updated, so it seems that they're sticking with the information provided to them by anonymous sources.
In any case, it's clear that something is happening. Over the past few weeks, multiple sources have suggested that Microsoft is making a huge strategy change in the gaming space, focusing on software rather than hardware. In truth, it always seems that this was its strategy since it went all in on its subscription-based Game Pass service. Yet that didn't stop Microsoft from trying to rival Sony's own line of console exclusives. It isn't clear if this has been a success.
At the very least, Xbox's Phil Spencer is set to address fans next week. In a short message, almost definitely referring to all of the drama and discourse, Spencer said, "We're listening and we hear you". He says that his talk next week will share the company's "vision for the future of Xbox".
Ahead of this address, it's been reported that Spencer spoke with Xbox staff about this change of strategy. Here, it's said that he reassured workers that Xbox isn't leaving the console business, despite the talk online. Still, it's also being reported that many workers don't know what Spencer will say in his address in a few days, so we'll have to wait and see what this means for games like Starfield.
