After having recently released its New Game Plus altering update for Lords of the Fallen on PC, developer Hexworks has now released the update on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as well. There are many misconceptions about video game development that continue to this day despite decades of proof to the contrary. One of them is that video game developers rarely “stress about their titles” unless they’re in “crunch mode” or simply unsure how people will receive the game. The fact is that game developers stress about their titles all the time for various reasons, both internal and external. The bigger the game, the more the stress piles in. Starfield is an excellent example of this. Numerous people, from Todd Howard to others at Bethesda, have noted the stresses of working on the game and attempting to make it great.
Indie horror visual novel, Slay the Princess, is out now on PC. The game is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and has full support for the Steam Deck. Slay the Princess features a unique pencil-based art style drawn by hand, as well as complete voice acting.
When Skull Island: Rise of Kong was released earlier this week, we reported on the visceral social media reactions to its rudimentary gameplay, PS2-esque graphics, and left-fielded bugs with many calling it "the worst game of 2023." The reason it's received that dubious title, however, is apparently because the developers only had a year to work on King Kong's latest video game outing.
Usually, movies are an escape from a world filled with scary, terrible things, but we all still enjoy the occasional trip into the darkness. Beyond stupid fun, scary movies can also bring people together: You can curl up into your loved one to feel safe, make jokes to alleviate the really intense parts, or laugh together afterward at gross-out moments.
The GSD’s physical and digital sales data for the United Kingdom is now available for September. Bethesda’s Starfield is the second best-selling game of the month, pacing “narrowly” behind launch sales for Forza Horizon 5 (the current fastest-selling first-party Xbox game this generation).
Since its debut, Game Pass has been seen by some as a double edged sword for developers, since they can easily offer their new title to a larger audience of players that may not have checked it out otherwise, but those players may not go on to purchase the full product even after the game departs from the subscription service’s library, leading to less overall game sales.
